Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College Athletics is seeking candidates for a part-time (PT) Sport Programs Coordinator in the Athletics Department for the 2025 Spring semester. The Sport Programs Coordinator will report to the Director of Athletics, with a secondary report to the Assistant Director of Athletics.
The PT Sport Programs Coordinator position's general duties include: coordinating, supervising and managing weekday, nightly and weekend intramural and open recreation programs; in addition to building supervisor responsibilities.
The Sport Programs Coordinator will be required to:
- Cultivate an inclusive environment focused on intramurals and recreational activities for the SUNY Broome community.
- Create, develop and run intramural programs including all administrative functions, advertise for team participants; maintain social media accounts.
- Recruit, hire, train and evaluate student workers as intramural officials/referees/program assistants.
- Responsible for efficiently scheduling and verifying intramural and open recreation payment vouchers for student workers.
- Monitor Open Recreation participation and ensure student workers are trained on athletic department protocol to maintain a safe environment. Recruit, hire and train student workers. Implement and enforce safety protocols for users.
- Manage matters related to the operation of all activity areas during Athletics open hours.
- Open and close all athletic facilities for recreational usage; to include gyms, fitness center/weight room; dance studio; locker rooms.
- Performs frequent inspection of facility to maintain safety of participants in addition to cleanliness and functionality of equipment and spaces during open gym and intramural hours.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, college employees and the public.
- Act in a professional manner by upholding SUNY Broome Athletics and College policies when involved in conflict management with patrons, students and staff.
- Provide monthly reports as needed to the Director of Athletics for participation of programs.
- Organize and/or co-sponsor special events in partnership with departments like athletic clinics, workshops and wellness days.
- Respond to emergencies and act in accordance with CPR/AED/First Aid certification and SUNY Broome policy.
- Act as liaison between students, staff and Athletic department to address noted concerns; make recommendations as appropriate.
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the workplace.
- Complete all required trainings and professional development sessions sponsored by SUNY Broome and Faculty-Student Association.
- Participate in Athletic and Division meetings and events as required.
- Other duties/special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Assistant Director of Athletics.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or Associates degree with three (3) to five (5) years of experience coordinating and supervising recreation and/or intramural programs is required.
- Knowledge of team and individual sports.
- Sport program supervisors must be certified, or become certified, within three (3) months of hiring in CPR/AED and First Aid.
- Supervisory experience and conflict resolution skills to deal with issues in an objective, fair and assertive manner as they arise.
- Must be punctual, computer proficient, and have excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively - via technology, by phone, in person, and in writing.
- Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population.
- Experience working in a college athletic environment preferred.
Additional Information:
Position Effort: Part-Time, Spring 2025 Semester leading to continuation of position for the 2025-2026 Academic year.
- The hourly rate for this position is $24.25.
- The ability to work up to 25 to 29 hours on weekday afternoons, nights, weekends and occasional holidays based upon the academic calendar.
