Summary
The Simulation and Lab Coordinator in Nursing provides clinical, educational, and technical support and expertise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based and clinical nursing activities across all levels. Primary teaching responsibilities will be teaching in the Simulation laboratory and the clinical setting. This position is responsible for coordinating the routine activities of the nursing simulation lab, maintenance of the lab environment, and supporting the development and maintenance of the nursing curriculum. The coordinator will work closely with the Program Director and nursing faculty in meeting program outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Participation in development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation curriculum in alignment with Accreditation standards, evidence-based practice, and simulation best practices
- Facilitating faculty training and mentoring in
simulation
- Maintaining and updating equipment and software
- Collaborate with faculty to provide consistent, consecutive and
relevant student learning experiences to meet course and clinical
objectives in the simulation and skills lab.
- Collaborate with community partners to provide
interdisciplinary experiential training and coordinate community
education programs
- Provide simulation instruction and clinical instruction at
clinical agencies for nursing students at multiple levels and
sites
- Commit to learning about assessment and continuous improvement
strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in
Program and University assessment and continuous improvement
initiatives.
- Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to
everyday work.
- Oversees and contributes to the evaluation of students during
campus skills, simulation activities, and clinical
experiences.
- Understands and does basic troubleshooting of simulation
mannequins, camera system, and software.
- Engage in student recruitment and outreach.
- Maintains the lab inventory, ensures the safe storage and
disposal of hazardous materials
- Creates and maintains a respectful and professional working
environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking,
and a confidential debriefing process
- Develops, implements, updates, and monitors simulation lab
policies, procedures, use, and operation
- Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited nursing program
• Basic Life Support Certification
• Unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan
Required Experience
• 3 years experience as professional nurse providing direct patient care
• One year of experience in simulation lab teaching
Desirable Education and/or Experience
• Masters of Science in Nursing
• Experience in simulation-based curriculum development for nursing education
• Experience in Clinical Simulation Lab coordination
• 2-years clinical teaching experience
• Certified Health Care Simulation Educator or other simulation certification
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
• Well-developed computer, technology and audio-visual equipment skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to correctly lift and carry manikins, equipment, and supplies.
• Ability to understand and utilize advanced technical simlab equipment, and communicate that knowledge to others as appropriate
• Ability to prepare and organize simulation laboratory and demonstration materials
