General Summary
The role of the University Advising and Career Development Center (UACDC) Graduate Assistant Advisor (GA) is to assist academic advisors on individual and group advising initiatives. The GA must be able to work a minimum of twenty (20) daytime hours, Monday-Friday, on-campus. Some weekends and evenings may also be required. Although the GA's assignments will largely be determined by the needs of the office at the given time, every effort will be made to match GA's interest, skills, experience, and abilities with the appropriate and desired tasks.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide educational guidance and assistance for students when choosing courses, creating schedules, and planning for academic success
- Gain familiarity advising a diverse population of students including first-generation, non-traditional, probationary, and culturally diverse students
- Meet with new students through freshman orientation and transfer appointments to assist them with initial adjustment to university academic life
- Guide students through the exploratory process by meeting one on one (on-campus / virtual / phone) with them when needed
- Assist in planning and implementing group advising and student outreach programs
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have an interest in serving students in a higher education setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative and exhibit independent judgement.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google suite, and Zoom.
- Excellent organizational skills; capable of multitasking effectively.
- Demonstrate level of competency in public relations, customer service, and communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Energetic; proactive, and service-driven.
