Position Purpose
The Data Governance Manager operationalizes and advances Dartmouth’s data governance and related objectives. Using knowledge of project management practices and focusing on continuous improvement, the Data Governance Manager develops processes to execute data governance objectives and identifies further opportunities to enhance institutional data governance and data quality. The Data Governance Manager reports to the Associate Provost for Institutional Research and partners with Information Technology and Consulting and other campus constituents to achieve institutional goals.

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Familiarity with project management tools and techniques.
- Fundamental understanding of data governance goals and techniques.
- Five years relevant work experience in a technical or functional role working with data and/or data governance.
- Experience in and functional understanding of complex data environments.
- Familiarity with defining and tracking performance indicators.
- Ability to develop methods of implementing institutional initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, lead, and influence within and across teams.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience providing training and support.
- Demonstrated ability to develop skills and competencies.
- Understanding of change management.
- Experience with data governance in higher education.
- Demonstrated success driving a project forward.
- Experience synthesizing information for senior leaders.
- Experience maintaining administrative and software systems supporting the implementation of data governance priorities.
- Experience as a subject matter expert regarding the interpretation and documentation of data governance policies and processes.
- Experience mentoring and teaching others.

Data Governance -
- Implements data governance standards, usage, and requirements with clients and stakeholders. Develops and implements project plans, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring successful execution of institutional-level projects in alignment with objectives.
- Collaborates with data governance sponsors to develop and enhance data governance policies, frameworks, and strategies.
- Establishes mechanisms to track the impact of data governance programs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.
- Engages with external partners, vendors, and industry experts to stay informed about emerging trends and practices in data governance.
- Coordinates cross-functional improvements to data quality.
- Leads cross-functional teams and stakeholders, providing guidance, support, and oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
- Researches data governance best practices at other institutions.
