Position Summary:

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine is seeking an Assistant Professor to develop an independent, extramurally funded research program focused on mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and development of innovative cardiovascular therapeutics.

Principal Duties:

The successful candidate will spend time identifying research problems, designing research methodologies and conducting experiments in the field of Cardiovascular Biology that will make significant contributions to the current research endeavors in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine specifically focused on understanding basic mechanisms of arrhythmias and innovating new arrhythmia treatments. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure independent funding to continue/develop their research. The incumbent will participate in resident and fellow teaching through didactic lecture and presentation at Grand Rounds. Clinical qualifications and clinical work are not required, but would be available to qualified candidates. University and
community service will be expected as appropriate.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

PhD in Biology or related life sciences areas required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

A record of scholarly achievement is necessary including preferably a history of peer-reviewed extramural research funding. Strong scientific background with a commitment to scholarly achievement in research areas relative to mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmia is needed. Expertise in techniques that complement ongoing research in the Cellular and Molecular Arrhythmia Research Program (CMARP).
