The Associate Director of Research plays a pivotal role in supporting faculty in securing and managing sponsored research funding. This position involves comprehensive pre- and post-award administration, identifying funding opportunities, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Associate Director of Research also provides critical oversight of time and effort and conflict of interest reporting for the college, contributing to the successful execution and administration of research activities.


Areas of key responsibilities include:

Grant Proposal Development:

  • Assist faculty in identifying funding opportunities aligned with their expertise.
  • Support proposal development, including drafting and preparing budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with funding agency guidelines and submission deadlines.

Research Administration:

  • Oversee pre- and post-award research administration, including grant management and budget tracking.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure alignment with institutional and funding agency policies.

Funding Opportunity Identification:

  • Proactively identify and disseminate funding opportunities to faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty to match funding sources with research initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Serve as the liaison with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other research proposal development units.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations regarding research practices.

Reporting and Oversight:

  • Coordinate time and effort reporting (TEARS) and act as the primary contact for conflict of interest (COI) and notice of interest (NOI) reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports to support accountability and transparency.

Internal Research Funding Programs:

  • Administer internal research funding programs, including reviewing applications and distributing funds.
  • Oversee dataset purchases and subscriptions to support research activities.

Research Communication and Collaboration:

  • Support the Associate Dean for Faculty and Research in administering internal research programs.
  • Assist in communicating research activities and accomplishments across the College.
  • Facilitate cross-college and cross-institutional research collaborations.
