Youth Center Assistant

Job Summary

Youth Center assistant will work in an after-school and summer program that provides academic support and enrichment opportunities. Programming includes arts, life skills, leadership development, and health and wellness activities. The Youth Center assistant will provide programming support to partners made up of university faculty, residents, students, and community organizations.
 
The position is grant funded for 12 months of hire.  We are working to secure additional funding.
 
Work schedule will be Monday through Friday from 2:15PM - 6:00 PM with some scheduled Saturdays for special events. Work Location: 1578 West 1700 South Salt Lake City, UT 84104



Responsibilities
- Responsible for daily set-up and clean-up of all materials used during the program. Escorting youth participants home may be required from time to time.
- Track youth attendance and participation, gauge interest, assess programs and report any challenges or opportunities to Youth Center Coordinator.
- Create a safe, respectful environment that facilitates learning and is encouraging and engaging, as well as culturally appropriate, for youth participants.
- Maintain the Youth Center facility, communicate all expectations to participants, and manage behavior and conflicts as needed.
- Monitor and evaluate, on an ongoing basis, programs and activities to ensure the safety of youth participants, quality of programs and utilization of resources.
- Provide regular updates and support to program partners and aid in the cultivation of relationships with youth participants.
- Facilitate communications with parents through home visits with staff/interns and provide opportunities for parent engagement.
- Implement programming as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
