Director of Human Resources, School of Veterinary Medicine
The Director of Human Resources (HR) will serve as a strategic partner to senior management in the School of Veterinary Medicine, playing a critical role in advancing the school's mission and organizational goals. Reporting to the Vice Dean of Administration and Chief Financial Officer, with a dotted line to the Executive HR Director in the Division of Human Resources, the Director will lead the development and execution of comprehensive HR strategies that support the school's diverse and complex operations, which include clinical enterprises, research entities, and academic departments.
This position will lead a team of three HR professionals, overseeing the delivery of a comprehensive range of HR services while promoting a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity. The role involves addressing key organizational challenges across various employee groups, including faculty, staff, residents, interns, and non-tenured academic personnel. Given the diverse operations of this multifaceted organization, creative problem-solving will be essential to develop balanced and effective solutions across all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a strategic HR partner to senior management and
collaborate with central HR to ensure alignment with organizational
goals.
- Provide consultation on HR management issues, organizational
restructuring, and policy interpretation.
- Investigate and resolve employee relations matters, including
disciplinary actions, misconduct, and complaints.
- Lead conflict resolution and mediation processes, ensuring fair
and consistent application of HR policies.
- Collaborate with supervisors to address daily HR operational
needs, ensuring effective workforce management.
- Oversee HR programs including benefits, retirement, family
medical leave, disability, occupational health, and workers'
compensation.
- Advise managers on job design, classification, and salary
administration to ensure competitive and equitable compensation
practices.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment
laws and regulations by reviewing and updating HR
policies.
- Lead HR communications related to policy changes, compliance
updates, and best practices.
- Supervise and guide the recruitment and selection process,
fostering best practices in talent acquisition and
retention.
- Manage the HR role within Workday, overseeing recruitment,
compensation, benefits, and performance management
processes.
- Provide oversight and training for the University's annual and
semi-annual performance evaluation program.
- Develop and administer HR policies in collaboration with
central HR leadership to ensure compliance and alignment with
university standards.
- Participate in strategic projects, committees, and working
groups across the school and University
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet evolving business
needs.

objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration,
or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR management experience,
with a strong background in higher education or complex
organizations.
- Experience with Workday or other HRIS systems
preferred.
- Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP)
highly desirable.
