Job Summary

The Division of Student Affairs at Auburn University is seeking candidates for Recreation & Wellness-Competitive Sports to assist in the oversight of educational and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff provided by the university’s intramural and club sports program (competitive sports).

Auburn Recreation and Wellness boasts over 40 acres of both natural and artificial playing surfaces for Intramurals and Club Sport events. Auburn Competitive Sports offers ~20 leagues and tournaments for year-round opportunities for students, faculty and staff to participate.

Essential Functions
  • Recruit, hire, and train 70~ competitive sports student staff, including supervisors and assistants.
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of student officials by leading initiatives in training, development, and education. Through mentorship and guidance, this role not only equips student officials with the expertise to succeed but also inspires and supports those aspiring to advance and excel in their officiating careers, fostering a legacy of excellence and professionalism.
  • Prioritize training and development of student staff using a combination of in person, virtual, or email-based avenues for advanced training to retain and support staff.
  • Communicate and interact with Recreation and Wellness employees in a positive and encouraging manner.
  • Coordinate with other campus departments such as Greek Life, Student Conduct, Auburn CARES, and WEGL to collaborate for special events within the competitive sports program.
  • Utilizing scheduling software IMleagues, create, schedule, and maintain leagues for all intramural sports.
  • Establish annual club pages for all clubs within Recreation and Wellness to ensure all participants are registered.
  • Communicate with assigned club officers to continue to grow and develop a comprehensive club sports program of 40+ teams.
  • Engage with competitive sports professionals within the state, region, and national level to discuss latest trends within Competitive Sports. Utilize the connections from NIRSA to continue developing as a professional and leader within Recreation & Wellness.
  • Manage Kronos payroll to ensure accuracy and submit all proper documentation to the business administrator in a timely manner.
  • Manage facilities, equipment, and supplies for Competitive Sports by maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies. Purchasing and tracking replacement equipment and supplies as necessary to ensure the safety for all competitive sports participants. Ensures that program budgets are in compliance with University and Department guidelines, policy and procedures. Assists in the monitoring of expense budgets pertaining to the intramural and club sports areas.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business, Exercise Science, or related field.

Level I – Bachelor’s degree

Level II – Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in sports or recreational programming working in a collegiate/community recreational environment.

Level III - Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience in sports or recreational programming working in a collegiate/community recreational environment.

Substitutions allowed for Education:
8 years of experience in sports or recreational programming working in a collegiate/community recreational environment accepted in lieu of education requirement.

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
Graduate degrees accepted in lieu of experience for advance levels, at a rate of one year relevant education per year of required experience.
