The University of Georgia ( UGA ) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and creative Academic Professional to serve as Coordinator of the Intensive English Program ( IEP ) within the Division of Academic Enhancement ( DAE ), a unit in the Office of the Vice-President for Instruction (OI). Appointment of the selected candidate will be at the rank of Academic Professional Associate, Academic Professional, or Senior Academic Professional. The DAE supports students as they transition into higher education and sustains their progress through the University’s unique academic environment through innovative courses, programs, services, and student-centered initiatives. One such program is the IEP which offers an intense, supportive, and student-centered English language program to help students develop the English language proficiency and the cultural competence they need to enter and succeed in American universities, including UGA

The Coordinator will report to the director of the DAE concerning the mission, management, and growth of the IEP and will work closely with the DAE’s business manager in tracking expenditures and budgeting for the program. The Coordinator will both teach within the program and contribute to division- and campus-wide conversations about innovation and the future evolution of the IEP .

Additional duties include responsibilities such as responding to e-mails, preparing visa-related documents, answering students’ questions (by email and face-to-face) preparing invoices using QuickBooks, managing inventory, inputting new students into the IEP’s registration system, scheduling courses, processing payment requests for invoices, and purchasing via the University’s UGAMart system.

This position may involve flexibility of the work schedule and occasional evening and weekend hours. Additional Requirements
Candidates with a master’s degree must document exceptional accomplishments in Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, Applied Linguistics Business, International Affairs, or related area and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • TESL / TEFL certification.
  • An earned Ph.D degree is preferred.
  • One year’s practical experience in higher education workplace with significant experience in program operations (e.g.; enrollment management, admissions, or international recruitment).
  • At least one year’s experience with international experience and intercultural communication/competencies (e.g., study abroad, life/travel abroad etc.).
  • Two years’ experience coordinating university-wide programming or activities
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Multi-lingual with proficiencies in written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of student learning outcomes and program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of programming and organizational strategies and their application in the higher education setting.
  • Evidence of collaborative high-energy work with the ability to sustain autonomous, self-regulated work.
  • Significant practical knowledge of international education and/or student development.
  • A strong desire to help international students and the patience required to work with learners who may have limited English proficiency.
  • Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders such as student, faculty, staff, administrators, external agencies, and foreign governments

Duties/Responsibilities
Coordinate the Intensive English Program and staff, including, but not limited to designing and implementing innovations to maximize program effectiveness and sustained growth; collaborating with the Office of Global Engagement concerning visas for international students registering for this program and with the UGA graduate school for students who would like to apply to UGA graduate school after completing the IEP ; assisting in planning and executing program events; providing appropriate programmatic support for participants during their residency; and liaising with other campus partners including International Student Life, the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, and the UGA Gwinnett Campus and beyond.

Manage the production of advertisements; maintain IEP application processes; manage aspects of the IEP budget; supervise IEP PT instructors and one graduate assistant; develop and conduct assessments to determine the effectiveness of IEP ; offer campus as well as conference presentations on IEP .
