Essential Job Functions
The General Utility Worker will provide minor repairs and cleaning services for the ASU Hickory Campus location in Hickory, NC. This is a 15-acre site and 226,000 square foot building now open full-time to students, faculty and staff.

Duties will include: Floor maintenance of all resilient floors including stripping, refinishing, buffing, polishing, sanitizing, sanding and refinishing of wood floor, cleaning carpets, deep cycle carpet rinse extraction, bonnet/buffing system, dry foam system and spot cleaning, maintaining restroom areas in a sanitary state and replenish paper supplies and soap as necessary. Cleaning windows, walls, woodwork and light fixtures, emptying trash, moving furniture, minor repairs, light bulb replacement, snow and ice removal, other duties as required.

Trash and debris which consists of, at a minimum, removal of trash, recycling and other foreign matter from trash containers and building surfaces. Replacement of trash can liners as needed. Removal of trash, snow and other debris from entrances, steps and sidewalks.

Security consists of responsibility for keys that give access to assigned areas. Unlocking and locking of building doors at designated (scheduled) times is required.

Valid driver's license is required and ability to operate university owned vehicles, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Should have experience in floor care, general housekeeping, use of floor equipment, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

Must be physically able to lift moderately heavy materials, equipment and supplies on a daily basis. Ability to work steadily, periodically in extreme temperatures, for duration of shift. Must be able to complete work repair requests and requisition forms. Must have full use of all five senses. Good communication skills and abilities when working with faculty, staff and students, thus fostering good relations with the public and building occupants. Ability to work with cleaning chemicals.

Ability to work in a large industrial setting; The Hickory Campus location is a five-story building with 226,000 square feet.

Ability to operate university owned vehicles with a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
-Cleaning experience in large industrial setting.
-Microfiber and green cleaning experience.
-Ability to work within team and individual settings.
-Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
-Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.
-Ability to attain any certifications required in some areas.
-Proficiency in basic computer skills.
-Ability to do minor building repairs.

Work Schedule/Hours: Work Schedule: MONDAY - FRIDAYMonday through Friday on 2nd Shift Hours - 12:30 pm - 9:00 pmEmployee may be asked to work occasional weekend work during special events hosted on-site(2nd Shift Hours Earning 10% Shift Differential)Weekend work and hours other than normal schedule may be required to accomplish assigned duties. Position is subject to call in, call back or stay over on off schedule hours and weekends should emergencies occur. This position is also expected to work, as needed, in the event of staffing shortages and other events on campus that require Building Environmental Service needs. Supervisor assignment may be adjusted based on business/operational need.Designated as MANDATORY, this position is expected to be available for work during university emergencies, holidays, closings and adverse weather conditions.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $31,200 - $33,540
