Description
A.T. Still University seeks a full-time exempt Department Chair/Associate-full professor of Physiology & Biochemistry on the Kirksville, MO campus. The department chair is responsible for all the administrative duties and oversight of the department. This includes managing the faculty and staff time and duties, developing and managing the department budget, and serving as a department representative to administration and students.
Requirements
Major Job Duties
  • Oversee allocation of faculty responsibilities in an effective and equitable manner.
  • Stimulate research, scholarly activity, and/or creative endeavors in the departments.
  • Provide feedback to faculty on their major activities and perform annual faculty evaluations.
  • Communicate the departments' needs (e.g. personnel, space, monetary, technology) to the dean and other appropriate administrators.
  • Ensure that new faculty and staff are acquainted with departmental procedures, priorities, and expectations.
  • Clearly communicate expectations of the campus administration to the faculty.
  • Work to develop collegiality and cooperation among faculty members in the departments.
  • Foster good teaching in the departments (e.g. ensures course updating, use of appropriate technology, attending to student feedback).
  • Ensure the assessment of student learning outcomes is meaningful and ongoing.
  • Facilitate successful recruitment and retention of faculty.
  • Foster the development of each faculty member's special talents or interests in a way that enhances personal development and meets departmental needs.
  • Address any conflict resolution or issues of professionalism within the departments.

Education/Training
  • PhD.
  • Teaching and research skills.
  • 5-10 years of experience preferred.
  • Academic and administrative skills.
  • Instructional technique.

Personal Characteristics/Traits
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Well organized and timeline oriented.
  • Good managerial skills.
