Job Details
American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) Board of Governors invites nominations and applications for the position of President. Appointed by the board, the next President must be a creative leader and passionate advocate for the institution.
ACAOM is one of two acupuncture colleges in Texas and is regionally accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Founded in 1991, it offers 3 Master’s degree programs and 1 Doctorate. The institution currently has about 75 graduate students in the program and has had collaborations with many domestic and international institutions including University of Houston, Houston Methodist Hospital, Taipei Medical University, and many others.
ACAOM seeks individuals who understand the acupuncture field but also is innovative enough to navigate the organization through a changing higher education environment. Understanding accreditation standards and having budgeting skills are required.

SUMMARY
The President is to be primarily responsible to the institution. He/She will serve as the Chief Executive Officer and ensure that the day-to-day operations are consistent with the mission of the institution. His/Her primary responsibility is to the institution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Oversight of implementation of policies and procedures approved by the Board of Governors
• Establishes priorities of projects and coordinates with various departments
• Engages in short-term and long-term planning of school operations with the Board of Governors and makes sure that the short-term goals match the long-term strategies set forth by the Board of Governors
• Oversight of the executive leadership
• Oversight of the development of programs
• Acts as a public relations officer and liaison with other institutions and organizations to promote the growth and development of the school
• Oversees the general daily operations
• Ensures that the activities of the college meet accreditation requirements
• Evaluates the performance of the leadership
• Responsible for fundraising activities of the college
• Works with the CFO to develop an annual budget
SPECIFIC SKILLS
• Applicants should have financial knowledge to develop budgets and identify future projects. He/She needs to have experience in fundraising or ability to optimize costs and build new revenue streams
• Applicants should have regional accreditation, programmatic accreditation, and Department of Education related knowledge. Understanding regulations for international students also a plus
• Applicants should have acupuncture clinical knowledge and understanding about the issues related to acupuncturists including analyzing trends and developing projections
• Applicants need have an understanding of higher education issues, faculty related issues, and curriculum experiences
• Applicants need to have problem solving skills, innovation and thinking outside the box, and evidence and ability to identify and negotiate with future businesses
• Applicants need to have leadership experience and managing people, conflict resolution abilities, and a collaborative and teamwork mentality. He/She should have ethical behavior and respect of others, and when necessary, jump in to help team to complete projects
• Applicants need to have research experience including successfully obtaining grants, conducting research, and receiving Institutional Review Board approvals
EXPECTATION
The actions of the institution are consistent with the mission and the college moves towards achievement of the strategic plan.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The President directly supervises the Executive Leadership Team and is ultimately responsible for the activities of all departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
The President must be a community leader with extensive expertise in education and the medical field. He/She must be a respected member of the medical community with extensive public relations record and network.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Higher education degree or equivalent experience or terminal degree in the medical field.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Ability to read Chinese a plus, but not required.
