General Notes
This position is in person at J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose
The Center for Injection and Seismicity Research (CISR), which conducts leading research on induced seismicity and other impacts of large-scale injection, seeks a reservoir geomechanicist with a strong technical background to be appointed as a researcher with the Jackson School of Geosciences' Bureau of Economic Geology. Candidates with quantitative reservoir geomechanics experience should apply. This position will also offer the opportunity to grow into or assume project and program leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct discipline-leading original research and maintain a robust scientific publication effort
  • Assume or grow into leadership responsibilities within CISR at the project or program level
  • Engage in outside funding activities and promote CISR program with stakeholders including organizing and leading technical meetings
  • Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers
  • Teach or co-teach classes in the Jackson School as opportunities arise
  • Provide service to professional societies, the Bureau of Economic Geology and the Jackson School of Geosciences. Serve on committees as needed
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations at scientific meetings and invited presentations


Required Qualifications
PhD in geoscience, with background including structural geology, reservoir geomechanics, petroleum engineering, fluid flow modeling, or closely related disciplines. A minimum of 12 years post-PhD degree experience in an active research environment. Ability to contribute and communicate across a broad range of subsurface geoscience and engineering discipline boundaries. Proven record of professional success in a research environment in industry, or in academia with industry sponsor collaboration. Strong record of scientific publications in international journals. Research performance, professional achievement, and leadership with international standing. Proven record of objectivity and balance, ability to coordinate and direct project activities in a collaborative research environment and to meet reporting and project deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing research programs and project needs. Possesses a professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Years of experience exceeding the minimum, a technical background that includes the required qualifications and adds a focus on subsurface geosciences or engineering disciplines that could include induced seismicity analysis and mitigation. Possess a background in geostatistics/data integration science and development of computer programs. Proven ability to secure external funding from private industry and lead an industry consortium. Successful fundraising and record of collaboration with state and federal agencies. Proven ability to interact with public and industry stakeholders on complex and potentially sensitive scientific topics of public concern. ​

Salary Range
$125,000 depending on qualifications.
