Job Description:
Raritan Valley Community College strives to prepare students for the challenges of the ever-changing global community. The Department of Math & Computer Science at Raritan Valley Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor/Assistant Professor for the 2025-2026 academic year. Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to teach courses in a variety of areas, including introductory and advanced programming concepts (e.g., Java), information security (e.g., Ethical Hacking, Digital Privacy, and Ethics), and networking fundamentals. Emphasis on preparing students for industry-recognized certifications is strongly encouraged.
Essential Duties:
- Teach courses in a variety of different areas, including introductory and advanced programming concepts (e.g., Ethical Hacking, Digital Privacy, and Ethics), and networking fundamentals. Emphasis on preparing students for industry-recognized certifications is strongly encouraged.
- Develop and teach courses using multiple modalities and at a variety of times in response to institutional and student needs.
- Utilize the College's learning management system to post syllabi, grades, and learning materials and support instruction in all classes.
- Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction through regular assessment and the utilization of innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Assess courses and programs following departmental and college-wide guidelines.
- Work with the K-12 Partnerships office to develop pathways to college for local high school students.
- Participate in student advising, and provide access to students through posted student hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods.
- Work collaboratively in a diverse learning institution while actively engaging in initiatives to close the equity gap and remove barriers to success; promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.
- Regularly evaluate courses to ensure that learning outcomes and assessments are appropriate and effective.
- Regularly evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives, and inform them in a timely manner of their progress.
- Pursue trainings, certifications, and other professional development opportunities to stay current in the Computer Science and Cybersecurity/Networking field and relevant pedagogical advancements.
- Participate in college/departmental professional development activities. Participate with Colleagues in networking with industry professionals and keeping advisory board active.
- Serve on departmental and College-wide committees. Participate in and contribute to the academic and administrative operations and policy-making of the college through committees and other bodies established for such purposes.
- Assist with departmental strategic planning and outcomes assessment
- Develop and use a syllabus for each course within college and department guidelines.
- Review, evaluate, redesign, and recommend instructional materials as needed.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community members.
- Adhere to College policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Computer Science / CIS/ IT is required.
- Minimum of two years teaching experience.
- Ability to teach day and evening classes.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry Certifications (CCAI - Cisco Certified Academy Instructor, CompTIA, Microsoft, and Cisco) or willingness to earn necessary certifications.
- Ability to teach courses in the Computer Science and Networking/Cybersecurity fields, including instructional opportunities in the following areas: various programming languages, Computer Forensics, Ethical Hacking, Networking Essentials, and the Cisco Academy CCNA curriculum. Willingness to complete training and professional development to broaden the scope of instructional capacity.
- Demonstrated professional development related to Computer Science and/or Networking / Cybersecurity field and/or pedagogy.
- Professional experience in Cybersecurity/Networking.
- Prior Community College teaching experience.
- Experience using instructional technology in the delivery of course content.
- Online and/or Hybrid teaching experience.
