Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
Provide support for NSF -funded project examining student noticing of quantitative reasoning in introductory biology labs. Work with faculty principal investigator to conduct observations, interviews, and focus groups, process and analyze survey results, and assist with analysis of observation, focus group and interview data. Tasks may include cleaning, thematically coding, and analyzing transcripts. Perform other duties as assigned. Background in education and/or qualitative analyses is preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist with designing and validating instruments (surveys, focus groups, interview protocols)
- Set up and conduct observations, interviews, and focus groups
- Manage paperwork for observations, interviews, and focus groups
- Speak to classes to recruit participants for research projects
- Set up surveys in Qualtrics or similar platform and assist with survey deployment
- Analyze data from surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, and any other data collected for the project
- Assist with processing and organizing data
- Produce and/or clean transcripts of recordings as needed
- Assist with managing and processing gift card incentives for participants
- Conduct literature reviews as needed
- Write summaries and reports as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- A bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or education
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Writing skills to summarize research findings and integrate into scientific manuscripts
- Willingness to acquire new skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills to interact and work collaboratively with other researchers
- Background in biology or math, including undergraduate degrees or other experiences in these fields
- Experience with educational research or qualitative research techniques
- Ability to work outside of business hours as needed for observations, focus groups, and interview
