Job Description:
A full-time Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the department of Mathematics and Computer Science must possess the knowledge, skills, and disposition necessary to support the teacher education programs by serving as the primary faculty to delivery mathematics education content and pedagogy courses designed to support elementary and high school teachers in training.
Founded in 1900, Coppin is an urban residential Historically Black College and University (HBCU), serving nearly 2,500 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses.
Responsibilities:
Deliver instruction for 12 credit hours per semester in a variety of Mathematics Education courses to serve students enrolled in teacher education programs; provide support to assist in the successful completion of certification exam preparation (such as, Praxis II); maintain currency of mathematics education curriculum; provide advising support to students;
Advance a productive research agenda and scholarship including grants activities, and contribute to the creative and intellectual atmosphere of the department, college, and university;
Participate in professional and service activities for the department, college, and university, which will include service on department, college, and university committees;
Support the School of Education in its accreditation process;
Perform other tasks necessary to support the activities within the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
A doctoral degree in mathematics from an accredited university and credentials in mathematics education is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a mathematics educator is preferred.
Conditions of Employment:
Must have:
- At least three years of experience in P-12 education with evidence of teaching effectiveness and a strong commitment to pre-service and in-service student learning and development in mathematics areas.
- Experience in teaching college-level mathematics and related subjects to a diverse group of students including a minority student population
- Outstanding communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening;
- Effective interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge and skills in curriculum development;
- Knowledge of assessment processes;
- Evidence of successful collaboration, interdisciplinary work, and ability to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion; and
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents.
