Assistant Professor of Theatre - Scenic Design

Description
Clemson University invites applications for a full time, 9-month tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start August 16, 2025. Responsibilities include teaching scenic design, theatre appreciation, and other courses appropriate to the candidate's qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will design two of the four mainstage shows of the 2024/2025 season and support the remaining two productions in the season. The committee is particularly interested in candidates with additional strengths in scenic painting, projection design, CAD, and props fabrication. Ongoing professional activity is anticipated, as is participation in recruiting, advising and mentorship of students.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a terminal degree in scenic design and/or commensurate professional experience. Three years of successful teaching experience at the College/University level is preferred. Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated ability and desire to teach both undergraduate majors and non-majors are essential.
Clemson University is an R1 institution. Priority consideration is given to applicants with a strong record of, or demonstrated potential for, high-quality, impactful research (creative activity, publications, funding support, etc.) and experience in relevant fields. A successful candidate for this position will demonstrate a robust and continuing artistic practice in scenic design, which may include regional and/or national productions as a scenic designer. In addition to continuing professional design work, the ideal candidate should participate in conference interest/poster sessions and contribute to regional and national journals on topics of theatre or education.
