Position Description

The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design seeks a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track Lecturer in Art Education. This faculty position involves teaching pre-service art teacher education courses, supervision of pre-service art teachers, and actively contributing innovative pedagogies and theories to teaching practices in the School of Art & Design.

The school welcomes candidates with interests in one or more of the following areas to apply: K-12 art teacher education, sustainable practices in art education, arts-based teaching and practices, instructional technology, community art education or museum education.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

• Teaching four courses per semester including Art Education or foundation studio art courses and supervising student teachers;
• Advising Art Education majors.
• Service to the area, school, college, university, community and/or profession.

While research is not the primary responsibility of this position, the selected candidate ­can still pursue her or his own research.

Required Experience

• Three (3) years P-12 art education teaching experience in the United States;
• Three (3) years experience in teaching art education methods courses;
• Advised and mentored pre-service art teachers throughout their academic journey;
• Collaborated with P-12 partners in clinical and field-based activities;

Required Education

At minimum, a Master’s degree in Art Education, or a Master’s in Fine Art conferred by August 1, 2025

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

• A PhD in Art Education;
• At least three (3) years of middle or high school teaching experience;
• Experience in teaching visual arts at the foundation level and a strong studio background;
• Possess a record of teaching excellence in the field;
• Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of theory and practice in art education;
• Experience with technology and online teaching in educational settings;
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills for working in a team setting.

M – F, 8:30am – 5:15pm, or as needed depending on class schedule.
