Job Summary

The Auburn University Water Resources Center is seeking an Instructional Outreach Programs Administrator. The individual selected for the position will provide support to the ongoing extension programs of the Water Resources Center ( WRC ) of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station that include AL Water Watch ( AWW ), 4-H AWW, AL Private Well Program ( PWP ), and AL Watershed Stewards ( AWS ). This is a three-year limited-term position and is funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of funds.

The mission of the Auburn University Water Resources Center is to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among Auburn University faculty and staff on water-related research, outreach, and instruction; conduct innovative research to find practical solutions for current and future water issues and empower private citizens to become active stewards of water resources.

Essential Functions

Specific job duties include event coordination and preparation, materials management, development of science-based training materials and curriculum (printed, online learning modules, videos, etc.), delivery of instructional training tailored to the needs of targeted groups including youth and adults, evaluating effectiveness of educational programming, facilitation of professional development training for educators, data entry and management, and assistance with communications and marketing related to programs.

In addition, the individual selected for this position will assist other AUWRC staff to encourage research and collaboration focused on water resources across the AU campus and beyond. They will represent AUWRC at ACES Trainings, county-based events, and other educational events. They will also assist with facilitation of the annual Alabama Water Resources Conference coordination and facilitation. The individual must be willing to assist other WRC staff to identify and seek extramural funds, implement project deliverables, and complete required reporting for grants.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Level I: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Science or closely related field; no experience required.

Level II: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Science or closely related field plus 2 years of experience in the design, implementation, delivery, and management of educational programs/services related to water resources, climate science, or related.

Level III : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Science or closely related field plus 4 years of experience in the design, implementation, delivery, and management of educational programs/services related to water resources, climate science, or related.

Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.

*When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment is required, as well as a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection. Must possess proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States by the employment date and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • Experience with the following: water quality data collection and analysis, citizen science, coordinating and conducting outreach/extension activities and workshops with the public (youth and adults), project management; willingness to travel and work some evenings and weekends. For this position, the individual should be able to set goals and priorities, request assistance where needed, complete tasks as asked on time, and also work in a collaborative environment with a variety of colleagues from various backgrounds and agencies.
