Early Childhood Teacher-BioKids
Job Summary
BioKids is a NAEYC accredited early childhood program. We are a parent cooperative, open year-round and offer full-time programming for young children. We serve children birth through five years in three classrooms: the Infant/Toddler Program (6 weeks - 24 months), the Discovery Preschool (24 months - 36 months or until potty-training) and the Preschool Program (36 months - 5 years of age). Responsibilities
1. Develop lesson plans to stimulate and develop mental progresses as well as provide
a well-rounded day of activity for pre-school children. Use DAP guidance techniques,
Creative Curriculum Developmental Objectives, provide appropriate activities.
2. Provide intentional daily experiences in accordance to the Creative Curriculum
Developmental Objectives, based on the children's developmental needs and interests.
3. Will be responsible for the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool and the
assessments for the children in their classroom.
4. Communicate effectively with professionals, parents and children.
5. Extinguishes, or lessens inappropriate behavior and redirects children to appropriate
actions by applying Positive Child Guidance techniques to help children learn to manage
their own behavior in a Positive manner. Models correct techniques for teaching
assistants.
6. Teaches and leads children in music and movement to help them develop memory,
verbal skills and a love for music.
7. Must be able to lift children of up to 30 pounds safely.
8. Interacts with parents and/or guardians to discuss concerns, day-to-day problems,
suggestions, etc. to alleviate concerns and maintain a harmonious relationship.
9. Keep accurate records of client's program usage.
10. Maintains a healthy and safe environment for children by sanitizing materials daily,
and operating within State Licensing Guidelines.
11. Promotes leadership skills within a classroom team and oversees classroom
assistants to interpret behaviors, and ensure they are working appropriately with
children.
12. Demonstrate the ability to work independently, but show a willingness to take
direction from the supervisor
13. Help maintain NAEYC standards and classroom portfolios.
14. Demonstrates consistent attendance and punctuality
15. Maintains a healthy environment for children by sanitizing materials daily and
operating within state licensing guidelines.
16. Supports the BioKids staff in activities such as: playing on the floor with children attheir eye level, supervising and maintaining ratios at all time, helping children toiletincluding lifting children to change their diapers, guiding them through the pottytraining process (as directed by the lead preschool teacher), washing hands, cleaningthe classroom, maintaining safe transitions between indoors and playground(including supervising children outdoors year round) and implementing lesson plansas assigned.
17. Daily routine care of children including: feeding, diapering, cuddling, playing,singing, talking, picking children up, holding them, and otherwise providing a gentleand nurturing environment. You will need to be available and responsive to the needsof individual children.18. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience working with children, in a child care, Head Start, or preschool.
- Demonstrated interest in learning about child development and guidance.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Current Food Handler's Permit or must obtain upon hire.
- Understanding and commitment to issues of inclusivity, cultural diversity, and anti-racism.
- Must be able to lift and carry small children in arms for short distances (10-50 lbs.).
- Must meet physical characteristics (with or without the use of
aids) including:
- Fine and gross motor skills
- Sufficient vision to read printed material
- Sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversations
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation
- Ability to sit on the floor and move about on hands and knees for long periods of time
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in a related field (such as Child and Family Development, Early Childhood Development) or equivalency
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as Child and Family Development, Early Childhood Development) or equivalency
- Current Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate or willingness to pursue a CDA.
- Some experience working in a NAEYC Accredited program.
