Full-Time Faculty Diversity Fellowship Program – Nursing (Fall/Summer Contract)

Reports to: Director of Nursing Program

FLSA Status: Exempt

Starting Salary $61,500 (2024-2025 Academic year)

*This position will have college-wide teaching responsibilities that include being assigned to instruct at our Blue Bell Campus and/or offsite locations. The primary office location will be the Blue Bell Campus. 

 

**This position requires the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting clearances to be submitted to Human Resources prior to the first day of employment.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

 

The Faculty Diversity Fellowship Program, in support of the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, promotes and advances the careers of exceptional scholars from underrepresented groups and is designed to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of its faculty.  The Faculty Diversity Fellowship Program helps to ensure that the faculty body is reflective of the student body and the communities we serve. The one-year program provides each fellow with opportunities for teaching, student engagement, peer mentoring, and professional development as educators and scholars.

Since its inception in 2007, the College has been enriched by the program through innovative curricula, scholarship, student connections, and advances in cultural competencies and awareness.  The underpinnings of divergent academic interests, cultural backgrounds, and professional experiences, together with the presence of diverse faculty role models, contribute greatly to the success of all students.

DUTIES:

  • Reduced teaching load in both semesters (12 credits per semester).
  • Participate fully in the life of the college, including committee assignments.
  • Incorporate appropriate teaching-learning strategies, technologies, and assessment methods for evaluation of student learning into the course
  • Follow the College’s guidelines for preparing and submitting course syllabi.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and adhere to the academic schedule, which includes final exam times and other program-related testing.
  • Assess student learning outcome achievement and incorporate results into discipline appropriate course planning and personal professional development activities.
  • Participate in course, curriculum, and program assessment activities.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator/Program Director/Division Dean in the development and revision of courses of study and curricula.
  • Engage in activities that facilitate student achievement of learning outcomes, such as ongoing feedback, and consultation as needed.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours.
  • Collaborate with appropriate Student Services personnel to address perceived student issues which may require special attention.
  • Attend scheduled divisional, discipline, and general faculty meetings and participate in student advisement, faculty professional development day, convocation and commencement, as required by the contract.
  • Provide service to the College and represent the College in the community as delineated in the collective bargaining agreement and faculty promotion guidelines.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct

 

 DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Teach assigned courses with primary focus on Medical Surgical Nursing in accordance with the College’s approved course description and competency-based student learning outcome and ACEN Accreditation Standards and Criteria.
  • Incorporate appropriate teaching-learning strategies, technologies, and assessment methods for evaluation of student learning in the program’s didactic, seminar, laboratory and clinical learning activities.
  • Participate in Nursing program governance as outlined in the Nursing Faculty Organization By-Laws.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Nursing Program’s policies and procedures in adherence to the Systematic Evaluation Plan as per Accreditation (ACEN) Standards and Criteria.
  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills in advising students regarding clinical and professional concerns.
  • Participate in collaborative relationships which promote positive community relationships on behalf of the College and Nursing Program.
  • Adhere to all clinical affiliation’s healthcare requirements.
  • Submit required internal reports on student attendance and course progress, and external reports by the PA State Board of Nursing and ACEN according to published deadlines.
  • Engage in on-going scholarship and professional development that promotes currency in clinical practice. Submit annual faculty data sheet identifying scholarship and professional development activities with appropriate CEU documentation.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree, or its equivalent, in appropriate discipline from an accredited institution required. Doctorate or terminal professional degree preferred.
    • Candidates prepared with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in Nursing with an expected completion date within 5 years of the start of employment may be considered
  • Clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in medical/surgical nursing
  • Current non-encumbered licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Current AHA/BLS certification.
  • Clinical expertise in required clinical specialty (Medical/ Surgical).

  • Scholars at the beginning of their academic careers or interested in refining their teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates of all abilities. Community College teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the use of innovative instructional techniques and technologies and use of course management systems
  • Demonstrated commitment to the use of a variety of teaching activities to address diverse learning styles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the incorporation of information literacy resources, technology, research, writing and culturally diverse perspectives into the curriculum.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual assessment of the teaching-learning process.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work with diverse populations, such as under-resourced groups and first-generation students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy.
