Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The College of Humanities and Sciences invites applicants to apply for the position of Human Resources Coordinator. The position serves as the primary human resources coordinator for the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and the Department of Statistical Science and Operations Research. The incumbent in this position performs a wide variety of administrative, logistical, operational, and technical tasks related to human resources and will proactively support the department on all personnel matters related to faculty, staff, hourly employees, student workers, work-study employees, adjuncts, graduate teaching assistants and lab teaching assistants. This position will advise the chair, faculty, and other managers on university and state policies related to personnel administration, supervise the department’s student workers and serves as department timekeeper, and records and retention manager for HR-related information and documents. Minimum Hiring Standards
  • Demonstrated experience working in or the ability to foster a diverse work environment as an employee of VCU .
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of university/state regulations, policies, and procedures as they related to human resources, payroll, and timekeeping.
  • Familiarity with VCU faculty, adjunct, work-study, graduate teaching assistant, etc., recruitment policies, guidelines, and practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; to solve problems independently and use available resources
  • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously with careful attention to detail by stated guidelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communications; customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Demonstrated record of dependability and reliability; excellent history of attendance required.




Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Extensive experience with university administrative responsibilities and handling issues related to personnel, payroll, and timekeeping.
  • Strong organizational skills.
