Library Technician II
Job Description

CSN Libraries is looking for a Library Technician II, to serve as the head of circulation at the Henderson Campus Library. The Library Technician II is responsible for the day-to-day continued operations of the circulation department and is currently responsible for supervising and leading two (2) full-time classified staff, and several student workers. CSN Libraries is seeking a candidate who is customer service oriented, flexible, and a forward-thinking leader, who would thrive in its diverse, collaborative, and student-centered library. This position reports directly to the Access Services Coordinator.
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Access Services Coordinator, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing effective leadership for the department, including
supervision of two library assistants and several student
workers.
- Fostering a collaborative, inclusive, team-based environment
among their staff.
- Providing exemplary customer service to all users and setting
an example for their staff.
- Scheduling and ensuring coverage of the circulation desk during
all hours of operation.
- Putting together and justifying a budget for student
workers.
- Managing the library's reserves collection, including the
requesting materials for purchase.
- Resolving circulation related issues, and managing user
concerns, as they arise.
- Communicating and enforcing library circulation and library
space use policies and making recommendations for changes as
needed.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development and creating
opportunities for their staff to do so as well.
- Participating in departmental wide committees, projects, and
other initiatives, and creating opportunities for their staff to do
so.
- Participating in college wide activities, including events,
committees, etc., as applicable.
- Working with the other heads of circulation to ensure
consistent and reliable services across all campuses.
- Reporting and tracking facilities related issues and
communicating such with other staff.
- Ensuring all needed office supplies are available.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three
years of increasingly responsible experience working in a library,
one year of which included technical work assignments such as
difficult copy cataloging; developing and maintaining a variety of
Web pages; creating and maintaining complex database applications;
and/or managing government publications; OR one year of
experience as a Library Technician I in Nevada State service;
OR an equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year experience working in a library circulation
department.
- Two years experience supervising others.
- Experience with Ex Libris' Alma, or another library services
platform (LSP) or integrated library system (ILS).
Starting Salary
Grade 29, Step 1 - $50,153.76
Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
