The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) seeks dynamic and forward-thinking candidates for the position of Department Chair for the Department of Business Administration, Hospitality Management, and Communication Studies. The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration offers three concentrations: Accounting, Management, and Marketing and is the largest major at USCB. The department is also home to the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, a small but growing major, and the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, Further, the department offers multiple minors in these areas which are among the most popular minors declared by students. These programs prepare graduates for professional careers in a variety of professional settings as well as laying the groundwork for successful graduate study. This 11-month position is available beginning August 16, 2025.
Leadership: Provide transformational leadership and vision to the department that promotes innovation. Advance the mission of the university and department by supporting students, faculty, and staff. Assist with recruitment and retention efforts. Engage in community outreach to promote the university and advance the department’s mission and goals. Develop a sustainable Business Advisory Board. Provide oversight of department budget. Work with Program Coordinators to ensure course schedules and curricular assessment are completed in a timely manner. Assess program quality and use data to improve curricula and develop new academic programs.
Teaching: Primary responsibilities include teaching a 2/2 load in a variety of undergraduate Business courses. Instructional modality is primarily face-to-face, complemented by offerings delivered hybrid or online.
Service: Contribute to shared governance by serving the program, department and university. Service generally includes student advising and mentoring, participation in committees, and other professional service activities. Deepen connections with local business to broaden experiential learning opportunities for student internships.
