The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Associate/Professor in Residence or Associate/Professor/Associate Dean of Advanced Education [R0145404].
ROLE of the POSITION
This is a search for an Associate/Professor-in Residence or an Associate/Professor/Associate Dean of Advanced Education within the School of Nursing.
Primary responsibilities of an academic faculty appointment are to (1) teach nursing courses consistent with area of expertise; (2) collaborate with other faculty in course development; (3) use teaching resources, such as WebCampus/Canvas to foster learning; (4) provide student supervision; (5) participate in school, university, professional and community service activities; and, for tenure/tenure-track (6) engage in research leading to publications in quality, refereed journals; and (7) seek internal and external grant funds. Classes in the School of Nursing are offered year-round, using a trimester sequence.
Primary responsibilities as the Associate Dean of Advanced Education:
The Associate Dean of Advanced Education (ADAE) serves as the senior leader in the management of the graduate/post-graduate program and is responsible for ensuring programmatic excellence. The Associate Dean of Advanced Education works closely with the Program Directors and the Graduate Program Committee (GPC) to provide leadership in graduate/postgraduate academic program development and evaluation consistent with the mission, strategic goals, and objectives of the School of Nursing. The ADAE reports to the Dean regarding curricular, programmatic, and student issues, and to the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (ADFA) regarding their overall faculty role.
Primary duties and responsibilities will be focused on, but are not limited to, the following areas:
Leadership
- Serves as a member of the Executive Council, as well as on appropriate School and University committees.
- Provides leadership in the management of the graduate/post-graduate program through curricular development, implementation of learning innovations that utilize technology, systematic evaluation and program planning, as well as in streamlining programs of study and innovative pathways to graduate degrees.
- Oversees development and evaluation of clinical sites and preceptors, in coordination with the graduate clinical placement coordinators and specialty coordinators, as well as serve as liaison to clinical partners.
Program planning and operationalization
Collaborates with other Associate Deans and appropriate School leaders to:
- develop and implement schema for course offerings and schedules each semester;
- refine, document, and communicate educational policies and procedures in the graduate/post-graduate program, and ensure uniform implementation by faculty;
- integrate research and faculty research expertise into the graduate curriculum;
- engage in the full graduate student life cycle (from application through admission, matriculation, progression/retention, graduation, and alumni support for proof of program completion).
- Represents the School of Nursing on University academic and student committees and coordinates course offerings, program changes, and student experiences to ensure relevancy to the overall graduate curriculum.
- Participates in the assessment and evaluation of innovative technological teaching tools for the graduate program including simulation, and makes recommendations for faculty development and acquisition of resources.
- Responsible for reviewing faculty recommendations for graduate course, curricula, and program changes prior to GPC review, and facilitates implementation of School committee decisions as they relate to the graduate program.
- Approves curricular exceptions for individual graduate students, in consultation with the Student Services Director and relevant Program Directors.
Accreditation, compliance, and reporting
- Ensures that the graduate/post graduate programs meet the standards and policies of the School and accrediting agencies and for preparing external reports for approval and accreditation, as needed for graduate programs.
- Responsible for monitoring and retaining data needed for accreditation or other program related reports, including data related to student performance on licensing/certification examination and will work with the Director of Accreditation and Assessment.
Human resources planning and management
- Identifies programmatic needs for faculty recruitment, in concert with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and ADFA.
- Recommends faculty assignments related to the graduate/post-graduate program by presenting program teaching needs and draft faculty assignments.
- Serves as a resource for program directors, specialty coordinators, course faculty, and graduate students to resolve educational issues and concerns.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The individual must hold a doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited College or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The individual must also hold or be qualified to hold a Nevada RN license and if selected applicant is subject to a one-time background check.
Faculty rank will be dependent upon educational credentials, terminal degree, experience, and scholarly achievement. In the instance of tenure-track or tenured consideration, the rank and track will be based on UNLV School of Nursing criteria and review. NOTE: The senior level nursing faculty member must possess a record of extensive scholarly achievement.
- Associate/Professor-in-Residence (non-tenure-track): terminal degree & experience.
- Associate Professor (tenure-track): terminal degree and comprehensive experience and research activity.
- Associate/Professor (tenured): terminal degree, research activity, and a record of extensive scholarly achievement.
Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification and licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse preferred.
