Summary

Lead, Research Operations position is available within the Baylor's Pediatrics - Children’s Cancer Center Program. The Lead, Research Operations will oversee, manage, and lead day-to-day research operations to ensure that current and long-term business goals are met. Will provide program and project management support for clinical and research operations supporting 18 clinical oncology programs and cell and gene therapy. Contribute to the implementation of activities and programs to ensure all required objectives and goals are met. Oversee or originate special projects or programs.

As directed by the Assistant Director, will support 75+ Oncology faculty and 15+ BMT/CGT faculty: compile and help monitor effort planning, S4 Budget oversight, position management, capital projects, and operational planning, TCH restricted fund analysis and monitoring/controlling.

Job Duties

Oncology Program Operations 50% (Research and Clinical Business Ops)

  • Alongside Assistant Director Cancer Center lead daily operational and project management activities for Oncology/BMT sections.
  • Monitor project expenditures; make recommendations pertaining to work operations and priorities to meet research objectives.
  • Ensure Oncology and CAGT clinical and research center project budget are monitored and controlled to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ensure the ongoing review and development of process improvements to maximize productivity.
  • Lead the daily program coordination and operation of an Oncology and BMT research department or unit alongside Assistant Director.
  • Strategic planning and project governance standard operating procedures.
  • Development of program policies and procedures in adherence to research projects in Oncology/BMT.
  • Plan, develop, and execute research operations.
  • Arrange and assign work to best use research project funds.
  • Plan and monitor the use of expenditures to meet Clinical/Research program objectives and compliance.
  • Prepare budget documents and reports.
  • Plan and monitor research project expenditures alongside Oncology OUA.
  • Support the Research Project principal investigators to ensure aspects of project delivery goal and objective at all research grant measures are met to quality, time-line and budget expectations.
  • Coordinate collaboration for awarded research project activities with Section Chiefs, AD, and PIs.
  • Monitor research or clinical trials SRAs in collaboration with Finance, Grants and Contracts and Clinical Research Office.
Team Leadership/Mentorship 20%

  • Develop and implement clinical business operations and research administration procedures.
  • Mentor and Train staff on clinical and research administration workflows (Effort planning, restricted funds management).
  • Identify areas for improvement in research administration workflows.
  • Oversee work objectives for senior coordinators on project timelines and operational goals.
Reporting and Analysis 20%

  • Generate administrative reports and data analysis (Power BI, PEPT, S4).
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to administrative functions (Template development, business clinical business case planning, and Dashboard reports for productivity).
  • Identify areas for improvement based on data insights.
Project Coordination 10%

  • Ensure the ongoing review and development of process improvements to maximize business productivity.
  • Set goals and expectations for project team around goals, timeliness, and work breakdown structures.
  • Develop standard operating procedures, implementation guides, and policy and procedures for project governance for 18+ Oncology programs and CGT/BMT.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing academic or industrial operational projects
  • Research administration experience
