Summary

This postdoctoral research fellow position in the Lee lab will entail diverse responsibilities, with the main focus conducting research that develops stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a potential therapeutic for spinal cord injury and other forms of central nervous system injury. Fellow will conduct in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies that advance our knowledge regarding the efficacy and mechanisms of EV-mediated therapeutic effects. Fellow will also help train and mentor laboratory members.

This role is in a growing lab and will require diverse and varying responsibilities. The most important characteristic is the ability to regularly generate publishable data in line with the experimental and scientific aims of the lab. The candidate must exhibit a high degree of resourcefulness, ability to take initiative, and the willingness to learn new skills. Furthermore, the successful candidate will exhibit strong interpersonal skills as they will have extensive interactions with members of the lab, the scientific community at BCM, and the broader scientific community as a representative of the lab.

Job Duties
  • Conducts experiments in the laboratory, including but are not limited to production and isolation of extracellular vesicles, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, tissue imaging, and mouse surgeries.
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes experimental data into graphs and presentation format.
  • Develops increasing expertise in this field and propose and designs experiments that aim to answer important outstanding questions in the field.
  • Develops robust pipelines for data generation, analysis, and quality control.
  • Leads the publishing of results.
  • Supports and supervises trainees.
  • Assists with maintenance of the laboratory as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • Experience Required: None Required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidate should have extensive generic laboratory skills and the ability to learn new skills as needed.
  • Excellent organization skills are needed to plan, execute, and analyze complex experiments.
  • Will ideally be comfortable handling and working with mice.
  • Otherwise, candidate does not need specific skills but should be enthusiastic about learning and mastering new laboratory techniques.
  • Prefer broad skills in molecular biology, imaging including advanced microscopy, tissue culture, cell line modification, animal work including survival surgeries, histology/pathology including quantification with stereology, flow cytometry, extracellular vesicle generation/isolation/modification
