Work Days: Monday through Friday, some weekend availability necessary
Shift Start/End Time : 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., some evening and weekend calls

Scene Shop Technician
Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Regular part-time
Supervisor: Chair of Theater and Dance Department
Position Purpose: Supports the optimal functioning, safety, training, and supervision of students in the daily tasks of the Scene Shop while assisting in production and technical aspects of the Theater and Dance Department.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in creating and following work schedule as set by
Production Manager and Technical Director to lead students in
completing technical assignments
- Train student workers on shop tools and equipment, and manage
their work hours ensuring the adherence to best safety
practices
- Maintain a clean and orderly shop, including but not limited to
keeping fire paths clear, removing all waste daily, keeping tools
and equipment clean and stored safely when not in use, keeping all
paints, adhesives, or other such materials safely stored and
updated with all necessary MSDS information.
- Communicate with Technical Director about shop progress and
needs regarding build schedule, technical drawings, information
requests to Scenic or other designers, and specific build
techniques for completing assigned work
- Follow build schedules, set priorities, and establish daily
tasks for student workers in communication with the Technical
Director
- Take responsibility and initiative on individual build
assignments or projects in conversation with the Technical
Director
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on shop tools and
equipment, notifying the Technical Director of anything requiring
attention for repair or replacement
- Use and maintain receipts and records in a timely manner and
following all College policies for assigned college purchasing card
and invoicing
- Drive the shop truck to transport students and materials to and
from offsite storage or local materials pick up locations
- Support the department as needed in other duties that may be
assigned in candidates area of expertise as time allows
- Two years employed in a scene shop with experience training and
leading other workers or a combination of relevant education,
training, certifications, and/or work experience. BA/BFA with a
focus in the area of theater design/technology and/or 3+ years
experience working in an academic scene shop preferred.
- A valid New York State Driver's License.
- Ability to understand and communicate with written and verbal
instructions.
- Must be safety conscious, and willing to be trained in
certifications as needed to fulfill job duties.
- Physical requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks for
extended periods, including standing, walking, climbing ladders,
and bending, as well as the capability to lift, carry, and move
objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on production need,
including weekends or evenings as needed to support technical
rehearsals and show strike during the term.
- The ability to foster and enhance a thriving, diverse,

and alumni.
- Knowledge and experience working with lighting, projection, or
sound equipment, such as the ability to instruct students in
following a lighting hang plot and hookup, experience with using
QLab for sound and projection, or ability to train students on
basic light and sound board operations.
- Knowledge or certification in one or more of the following
areas: rigging, welding, carpentry, scenic painting, or
props/special effects.

The hourly range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
