Job Description Summary

The Development Associate is a key member of the Bentley University development team within the University Advancement division. This role provides administrative support and performs tasks to enhance frontline fundraising efforts, including annual, leadership, and major giving, and specialized areas like gift planning, international, parent, and corporate and foundation fundraising. The Development Associate reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and collaborates with the team on various projects and tasks.

Essential Duties

  • Provide administrative office support and serve as the first point of contact for the office suite

  • Draft, prepare, and proof briefings, memos, letters, and other correspondence

  • Coordinate logistics and draft briefings for prospect/donor meetings, including those involving the President, senior leadership, and faculty

  • Manage all event logistics (invitation lists, invitations, RSVPs, pre-event outreach, name tags, menus, seating, event debrief, and follow-up) for donor cultivation events

  • Assist frontline staff with trip development, donor outreach, and planning complex donor meetings/events

  • Understands Bentley’s campaign and fundraising priorities

  • Provide meeting support including, but not limited to, scheduling, preparing agendas, minutes, and all other required logistics

  • Lead various projects including performance/activity reporting, portfolio assignment and hygiene, and donor stewardship

  • Update donor and alumni information in the fundraising database

  • Process gifts in a timely and accurate manner

  • Attend and staff advancement events, including evenings and weekends as necessary

  • Ensure that all communications are consistent with university branding and messaging, and in support of Bentley’s fundraising priorities

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma/GED plus 2 years of relevant work experience required

  • Collaborative, positive, and team-oriented individual

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with keen proofreading abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work confidentially with sensitive data

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in a value-driven organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate’s or bachelor's degree is preferred

  • Experience in higher education working as part of an advancement team, as a student leader or professional, experience in sales, marketing or similar related field where there is demonstrated comfort level working with external constituent

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work environment with 2-3 days per week on campus (days may vary)

  • Extensive sitting and computer work

  • Some weekend and evening duties are required
