The University of Oregon School of Law is a dynamic, ABA-accredited law school and Oregon's only public law school. Degrees offered include Juris Doctor (JD), Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Conflict and Dispute Resolution (CRES), and a minor in undergraduate legal studies. Position Summary
Reporting to the provost and senior vice president, the dean of the School of Law (Law) is the chief academic and administrative officer for the school and is responsible for developing and implementing academic strategies; recruiting and retaining faculty, students, and staff; and managing organizational and financial structures that promote excellence in research, scholarship, creative practice and education.
The dean will work with university administration, faculty, alumni and other internal and external leaders to promote the national and international visibility of the school and to ensure that resources align with its strategic objectives and potential. The dean is a member of the Provost's Deans Council and Academic Leadership Team.
Minimum Requirements
- Terminal degree such as a J.D. (from an ABA Accredited Law
School) or Ph.D. in law or a related discipline.
- Distinguished record in teaching, research/creative activity,
and professional service sufficient to merit appointment as a
tenured full professor in the Law School.
- Demonstrated record of progressive leadership, including
substantial experience in management of budgets and
personnel.

- Dedication to effective, inclusive, and collaborative
leadership.
- Capacity to formulate and articulate a shared vision, to
persuade a wide range of audiences of its value, and to engage
others in its implementation.
- Demonstrated capacity to be present and visible, nurturing a
strong academic and collegial culture among faculty, staff, and
students, while also engaging in external
responsibilities.
- An understanding and respect for shared governance between
faculty and administration.
- Ability to recruit outstanding new faculty as well as retain
and promote outstanding faculty.
- Broad understanding of the major developments in legal
education and the ability to effectively position the Law School in
response to them.
- Dedication to student success and professional
development.
- Ability to set priorities, set plans to achieve them, and
communicate effectively with multiple
constituencies to implement said plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven record or demonstrated capacity for significant
fundraising and major gift acquisition that will allow the Law
School to reach its goals and objectives.\
- Proven record or demonstrated capacity to understand and
oversee complex budgets and fiscal management procedures.
