Assistant Director Of Annual Giving
The Assistant Director of Annual Giving reports to the Director of Annual Giving and is part of a ten-member team responsible for raising in excess of $10 million yearly in direct support of Washington and Lee University's operating budget. The primary responsibility of this position is maximizing annual fund gifts and volunteer engagement through management of Class Agent volunteers.

Essential Functions:
- Identify, recruit, onboard, retain, motivate, and manage the
work of the volunteer class agent team in each assigned alumni
class. Inspire continued engagement through cultivation and
stewardship visits (in-person or virtual) to agents and other class
leaders as needed.
- Cultivate the pre-to-post 50th reunion volunteer pipeline,
stewarding volunteers as they step out of this milestone reunion
and into Five Star alumni.
- Contribute to Annual Fund data analysis efforts to suggest data
driven direction for W&L Fund dollar, participation, and
engagement goals.
- Contributes to the written solicitation process including
drafting, proofing, and mailing in collaboration with the Associate
Director of Annual Giving Communications.
- Takes a strategic role in orchestrating micro-campaigns to
support participation goals with an eye towards Give
Days.
- Manage a portfolio of leadership W&L Fund prospects. Travel
for purposes of solicitation and stewardship of W&L Fund
donors.
- Collaborate with communications team on marketing strategy for
challenges, micro-campaigns and benchmarking milestones.
- Supports strategic development of Alumni Volunteer Weekend
alongside Director and class agent program lead.
- Serves as development staff liaison to Mock Convention
fundraising team. Serves as staff liaison to other restricted
giving projects such as Hillel, Campus Kitchen, and others as
needed.
- Serves as a W&L Fund and University liaison to all
constituencies.
- Engages in Annual Giving professional development, including
STAFF meetings and activities.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required. One or more years of fundraising or
related experience is desirable. Fundraising experience may include
student fundraising or phonathon experience
- Familiarity with computers is required
- This position depends on creative communication to a varied
constituency, and the ideal candidate must possess excellent
written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to navigate complex, sophisticated conversations that
range from small talk to explaining philanthropy's role in
university finances, and personal motivations for giving
- Demonstrated initiative, careful attention to detail, the
ability to work within specific deadlines, prioritize, maintain
multiple tasks and manage student workers
- Willingness to fundraise and a desire to learn the unique
characteristics and culture of Washington and Lee and appreciate
the passion and expectations of its alumni
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
while cultivating relationships with volunteers
- Evening and weekend work is required during volunteer and
alumni weekends and during other specific times during the
year
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
Salary: $56,227 - Commensurate with Experience
