The Natural Resources & Environmental Science (NRES) Department is seeking an established academic at the Associate or Full Professor level to serve as Department Chair for this highly productive, interdisciplinary faculty, and we invite applicants with significant academic and organizational experience. The Chair will report to the CABNR Dean while providing administrative, intellectual and philosophical leadership of NRES.

Major Responsibilities 

 

  • Provide visionary leadership that leverages the strengths of NRES to meet regional and global educational and research needs.

     

  • Cultivate impactful relationships with community leaders, natural resource agencies, industry, and other stakeholders. 

     

  • Lead efforts to achieve short-and long-term goals for instruction, research, and engagement consistent with that of a Carnegie R1 institution.

     

  • Promote a culture of respect and collaboration among faculty that is focused on a shared vision.

     

  • Maintain the departmental priority to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

     

  • Recruit, develop, and retain faculty and staff that exhibit and value excellence and innovation.   

     

  • Manage human, financial, and physical resources to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

     

  • Represent, and advocate for, NRES faculty, staff, students, and programs across the college, university as well as other stakeholders.

     

 

 

Required Qualifications **Candidates will be hired at the level that is comparable to experience

 

  • Ph.D. degree in environmental, ecological or biological sciences or related field.

     

  • Tenure eligible at a rank of Associate or Full Professor. 

     

  • Leadership experience in a diverse academic environment. 

     

  • Administrative experience in the management of budgets and personnel. 

     

  • Relevant teaching and service experience with a distinguished record of scholarly achievement.  

     

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge of natural resource and environmental issues of the western United States, including those related to public land management. 

     

  • Experience or established relationships with state, federal, and non-governmental agencies and organizations that can support and enhance the basic, applied, and interdisciplinary research efforts of NRES faculty.

     

  • Familiarity with regional, national, and international curricula and trends in natural resource related graduate and undergraduate teaching programs.

     

  • Knowledge of the university land grant mission and implementation of that mission. 

     

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students, fostering collaboration and growth, within a multi-disciplinary department.
