The Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and Health Sciences (ABESNHS) at Florida Southern College (FSC) invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track-eligible Assistant Professor of Nursing position beginning spring 2025. The successful candidate will also serve as the Director of the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Graduate Certificate (PMC) Programs. The incumbent of this position reports directly to the Dean of the ABESNHS and works closely with the Dean to ensure the success of the MSN and PMC programs, the school, and the College.  

 

The master’s degree and post-master’s APRN certificate programs in nursing at Florida Southern College are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Areas of responsibility include leadership and administration, curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation, teaching and advising, and academic and community service. The incumbent is also responsible for promoting a collaborative culture that benefits the institution and the internal and external communities it serves.

 

Leadership and Administration

  • Facilitates and coordinates activities of the MSN and PMC faculty team
  • Supports operational and strategic planning, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of existing or new programs and initiatives
  • Leads the development of faculty assignments, including teaching, student advisement, and service for the MSN and PMC programs
  • Coordinates the development of the MSN and PMC programs reference documents, including handbooks and internal operating procedures and processes to promote standardization, reliability, and attainment of targeted outcomes
  • Coordinates the development of reports and events to support successful accreditation or re-accreditation by relevant accrediting bodies
  • Coordinates the collection, aggregation, and analysis of data to inform decision-making and continuous performance improvement and to ensure continuous legal, regulatory, and accreditation compliance of the MSN and PMC programs.
  • Promotes engagement of staff and faculty in program, school, and community activities 
  • Assists in the preparation and/or management of budgets
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of qualified faculty, staff, and preceptors
  • Participates in the supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff in conjunction with the Dean
  • Participates in student recruitment, admissions, and advising activities
  • Facilitates or guides the resolution of faculty and student concerns including, but not limited to, faculty assignments, student progression, and compliance with College and ABESNHS rules and guidelines

 

 

Curriculum Planning, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation

  • Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the MSN and PMC program curricula which meet or exceed professional, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Conducts a comprehensive program review annually
  • Coordinates textbook adoption selection and procedures to ensure congruence with national certification requirements and testing

 

Academic and Community Service

  • Collaborates with administrators, faculty, staff, and students across the larger Florida Southern College community to advance engagement and to promote the vision and mission of the College and the ABESNHS  
  • Serves as a liaison to community and clinical partner organizations
  • Serves on College and School councils, committees, and work groups
  • Advances discipline and professional expertise and scholarship for self and for other members of the ABESNHS faculty
  • Participates in local, State, and national meetings
  • Participates in School and College activities and celebrations

 

Teaching and Advising

  • Teaches assigned classes as determined by the needs of the program and as approved by the Dean
  • Advises and mentors students

 

 

The Director of MSN and PMC Programs contributes to the success of the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and Health Sciences by performing other duties as assigned by the Dean.

 

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in nursing (PhD or DNP)
  • Three years of successful teaching experience at the university or college level
  • Interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Problem-solving, organization, and time management skills
  • Program development and/or project management skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    Academic program leadership or administrative experience
