The School of Psychology, Sociology, and Rural Studies, part of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at South Dakota State University ( SDSU ), is seeking an Advisor to support its academic programs. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to play a key role in assisting our undergraduate students. This full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position is based in Brookings, South Dakota. This position is located in Brookings , South Dakota. The School of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies encompasses the broad scientific study of the person as an individual as well as the complexity of people as members of communities organized across multiple levels. Our School provides students with academic programs of study in preparation for critical and high-demand careers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Advisor will assist the School and the College in recruiting and advising students, career preparation, and other projects and tasks that enhance the undergraduate experience, including student organizations, competitions, scholarships, workshops and seminars with industry leaders. Advising platforms include online and face-to-face. Recruitment of students includes representing the School and its programs at various recruitment events such as Jackrabbit Receptions, Major Fairs, Junior Day, Senior Day, Yellow and Blue Days and other outreach activities. The advisor may also teach a first-year seminar in future academic years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master’s degree in a field relevant to the school, or in Education, Counseling, or a closely related discipline, by the start of the appointment;
- A minimum of one year of experience in student advising or a similar role;
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; and
- Valid drivers license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Experience in student advising, including managing student electronic records and advising databases.
- Experience working with distance education and adult learners.
- Background in career and professional development within the social and behavioral sciences.
