Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal
The Chemical and Life Science Engineering ( CLSE ) Department is an ABET accredited program offering BS, MS, and PhD degrees with scholarly achievement in the areas of stem cell engineering, synthetic biology, molecular therapeutics and protein engineering, nanotechnology and nanomaterials, microfluidics and catalysis, novel polymeric materials, and thermodynamics of supercritical fluids (http://www.chemical.egr.vcu.edu). The CLSE Department is housed in the College of Engineering at VCU which was established by the VCU College of Engineering Foundation and is comprised of 11 full-time faculty, more than 200 undergraduate students, and 30 full time graduate students. Facilities include the Institute for Engineering and Medicines, the Biotech 8 Research Facility, the Translational Research Innovation Projects Center, and the Nanotechnology Characterization Center housing advanced instrumentation. Collaborations exist with VCU Life Sciences, the Rice Institute for Environmental Life Sciences, and the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry at VCU . Applications are being sought for a tenure-track or tenured full-time faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in the Chemical and Life Science Engineering ( CLSE ) Department at Virginia Commonwealth University. Research areas are open, and outstanding candidates from all areas including traditional and developing areas are encouraged to apply. Candidates with research interests in pharmaceutical engineering (reactor engineering, continuous process engineering, particle sciences engineering, drug delivery), catalysis (chemical or bio), or computational and data sciences in chemicals and materials are especially encouraged to apply. Position Responsibilities
Teaching: The faculty member will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level throughout the CLSE curriculum. The candidate is expected to make important contributions and innovations in teaching.

Research: For Assistant Professor level, faculty member must establish a nationally recognized research program with a record of publication in refereed journals and external funding. For Associate/Professor level, faculty will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department. The faculty member will supervise graduate and post-graduate level students.

Service: The faculty member will be expected to provide high quality service to the department, college, university and professional community. In addition, the faculty member will serve on departmental, college, and/or university committees as necessary, specifically serving as the CLSE representative on the College of Engineering Safety Committee. The faculty member will perform other duties as assigned by the CLSE Department. Required Qualifications
•Qualified candidates must have earned a doctorate degree and have at least one degree in Chemical Engineering or similarly named discipline.
•For the senior level faculty position (Associate/Professor), the applicant will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department. For the junior level faculty (Assistant), candidates will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, as appropriate, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
