Description
The College of Architecture, Art and Construction at Clemson University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research and Creative Activities, a tenure-line position with faculty rank of Professor, and planned to have 50% research and 50% administrative apportionment during the terms of service. The preferred start date is July 1, 2025. The CAAC Associate Dean will report directly to, and serve at the pleasure of, the Dean of the College of Architecture, Art and Construction and provide strategic leadership for excellence in scholarship, creative activities, and research in the college.

About the College of Architecture, Art and Construction (CAAC):

The newly formed College of Architecture, Art, and Construction's (CAAC) portfolio consists of a School of Architecture; Department of Art; The Nieri Department of Construction and Real Estate Development, and nine centers and institutes. The college offers five undergraduate majors and ten graduate programs with over 800 undergraduates and 300 graduate students. The college has activities and facilities in Genoa and Barcelona in Europe as well as Clemson, Greenville, and Charleston, South Carolina.

Responsibilities

The Associate Dean for Research and Creative Activities will:
  • Develop Vision and Strategy
    In collaboration with the Founding Dean, the Associate Dean will align research initiatives with Clemson University's strategic plan, Clemson Elevate. Key responsibilities include:
  • Setting ambitious goals for the College of Architecture, Art, and Construction (CAAC) and identifying strategies to achieve them
  • Defining and managing success metrics for all research and creative activities within the college
  • Cultivating a forward-thinking, collaborative research culture
  • Assessing and addressing infrastructure and facility needs to support the college's vision for research and creative activities
  • Stimulate Research and Creative Activities
    The Associate Dean will catalyze faculty research and creative work by
  • Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration within the college, on campus, and beyond
  • Leading/supporting applied research and creative projects aligned with land-grant objectives
  • Leading/supporting industry, federal, and state-funded research initiatives
  • Leading/supporting the pursuit of prestigious awards and grants in the visual arts

  • Additionally, the Associate Dean will:
  • Identify and implement strategies to expand the college's funded research projects and creative scholarship efforts
  • Develop and manage a faculty mentorship program
  • Support faculty in preparing and executing research proposals
  • Provide Leadership and Role Modeling
    As a leader within the college, the Associate Dean will:
  • Offer strategic input to the Dean and unit leaders on the oversight of existing research centers and proposals for new centers
  • Assist the Dean and relevant committees with nominations for research and creative activity-related awards
  • Maintain an active research program and serve as a role model for faculty
  • Lead college-wide collaborative research and grant initiatives


  • Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications
    • A terminal degree in any of the academic disciplines represented in Clemson's College of Architecture, Art and Construction.
    • A scholarly record commensurate with the rank of tenured full professor in the College of Architecture, Art and Construction. Advanced Associate Professors with an exemplary record of achievement in university research, teaching and service at a level sufficient to qualify for appointment as a tenured Professor will also be considered.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Active and nationally recognized research/creative work profile
    • Strong record of academic leadership experience
    • Experience with interdisciplinary research and creative activities work
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including external funding agencies
