New York University seeks a passionate, collaborative leader to serve as the Vice President, Office of Global Inclusion (VP).
Founded in 1831 with a mission to be a center of higher learning open to all—regardless of national origin, religious beliefs, or social background—New York University is now one of the largest private universities in the United States and a leader in global education. Its enrollment has grown to over 65,000 students from nearly every US state and 133 countries, and its alum community exceeds 650,000 members worldwide.
NYU was founded as a University “in and of the city,” and its main campus is located in the heart of one of the most diverse, internationally vibrant, and multicultural cities in the world. NYU is a research university with more than $1 billion in annual research expenditures, ranking seventh among private research universities and fifteenth nationally. It comprises 20 schools and colleges. In 2014, the Middle States evaluation team described NYU as “one of the great success stories in American higher education.” As a member of the selective Association of American Universities, NYU is committed to excellence in every dimension: program reputation, global reach, faculty distinction, research breadth, and academic department strength.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of University Life, Dr. Jason B. Pina, this role will oversee efforts impacting undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty. The VP will oversee programs and policies to promote an inclusive campus culture, particularly within NYU’s student services and operational units. The VP will manage a central office staff of over 100 (~70 full-time) and oversee OGI’s centers and communities: the Center for Multicultural Education and Programs (CMEP), Global Spiritual Life (GSL), LGBTQ+ Center, and the Moses Center for Students with Disabilities. The VP will also work closely with various DEI ‘champions’ across the university, who do not report directly to the Office of Global Inclusion.
The VP should demonstrate strong interpersonal acumen and be prepared to influence across NYU’s large, decentralized structure. They should bring a deep understanding of global and local issues related to diversity of experience and perspective. They will need to know how to operate in an environment with multiple, sometimes competing, constituencies, and understand how to prioritize different needs.
This role demands a strategic leader who is highly collaborative and adept at fostering relationships across NYU’s diverse academic and operational units, serving as a central hub for inclusive collaboration across the university.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $330,000-$400,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
Initial screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. New York University will be assisted by Jonathan McBride, Dustin Laws, and Erin Kneeley of Heidrick & Struggles, Inc.
