Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Director of Advancement Analytics position. The Assistant Director of Advancement Analytics is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $65,000 per year - commensurate with experience. The Assistant Director of Advancement Analytics plays a pivotal role in supporting the fundraising and engagement efforts of the Advancement division. This role involves managing data, conducting data analysis, identifying trends, and generating visualizations to provide actionable insights and recommendations to inform decision-making and planning. As part of the Strategy and Analysis team, this position will manage data projects, collaborate across the division, and communicate findings. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, proficiency in data analysis tools, and a contextual understanding of fundraising principles in a higher education or non-profit setting.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Strategy and Analysis and works across all departments within the division. This role will work collaboratively with the Annual Fund, Alumni and Constituent Relations, and Communications to provide critical data insights in support of operational and strategic goals. In addition, this position will be a key liaison to the Advancement Operations team on issues pertaining to data management and data processes.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Data Analysis
- Acquire and maintain an understanding of Advancement data and
how its integration and analysis can inform
decision-making
- Design, create, and manage complex data sets from internal and
external data sources; Wrangle, clean, and organize data for
accuracy and consistency; Identify gaps in data and remedy them as
appropriate
- Make appropriate use of descriptive and exploratory analyses,
statistical methods, and data visualization techniques to identify
trends, patterns, and correlations that can provide valuable
insights and actionable recommendations to assess programs and
initiatives and propose new approaches
- Utilizes analysis findings to develop recommendations to
maximize fundraising and enhance engagement programs
- Design and maintain interactive dashboard/visualization and
reports for internal stakeholders, with the ability to explore data
insights and trends in a self-service manner
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with stakeholders from different departments to
understand their business objectives and requirements
- Communicate results and findings in written, oral, and digital
formats to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Assist with external reporting and respond to ad-hoc
informational requests as needed
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science,
or a related field
- 1 to 3 years of related experience
- Equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of
minimum education and related experience
- General understanding of fundamentals of statistics and
quantitative analytics
- Experience with querying tools, programming languages, and/or
statistical software (e.g. SQL, R, Python, SAS, SPSS)
- Hands-on experience with data visualization tools (e.g.,
Tableau, Power BI)
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office
applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to present
findings to non-technical stakeholders
- High level of accuracy in work and attention to
detail
- Strong analytical, time-management, project-management, and
organizational skills
- Demonstrated commitment to contributing to and collaborating
within diverse and inclusive communities
Preferred
- Master's degree
- 3-5 years of experience
- Experience working with a CRM system
- Experience and/or familiarity with fundraising in a higher
education or non-profit setting
