JOB SUMMARY:

Develops and provides user services based on Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) with related analytical techniques. Works daily with internal and private industry users/researchers involving Electron Microscopy (EM) facility capabilities. Provides assistance in maintaining facility capabilities and provides training to users. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

35% - Essential - Operation and analysis involving Focused Ion Beam (FIB):
Contributes to the operations of Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) daily. Actively works with Clemson University faculty and students to assist and train them on these capabilities. Works with regional and national outside industry user members to facilitate their projects.

25% - Essential - Operation and analysis involving Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEMs):
Regularly contributes to the operations of the Electron Microscopy (EM) facility TEMs. Actively works with Clemson University faculty and students to assist and train them on these capabilities. Assists with maintenance and up-keep of state-of-the-art TEM microscopes. Instructs faculty and students on the operation of facility TEMs. Regularly works with outside industry members involving facility TEM capabilities.

25% - Essential - Operation and analysis involving Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs):
Contributes in the operations of EM facility SEMs on a regular basis. Actively works with Clemson University faculty and students to help and train them on EM capabilities. Assists with maintenance and up-keep of state-of-the-art SEM microscopes. Instructs faculty and students on the operation of facility SEMs. Regularly works with outside industry members involving facility SEM capabilities.

15% - Essential - Equipment oversight and strategic planning:
Interacts with facility director to communicate about all EM facility matters. Provides efficient and timely completion of tasks to accommodate the maximum number of users. Uses his/her time creatively and effectively to develop user training and analysis plans. Utilizes exceptional communications and interpersonal relationship skills to provide facility services to internal and external users in a timely manner.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree - a related field and work experience directly related to the assigned research area; or a high school diploma and advanced journey-level work experience in a clinical or research setting
Work Exp 2+ years (B.S.) or 0-2 years (M.S.) in TEM, FIB, SEM, EBSD and EDS techniques

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Master's Degree in engineering or science discipline; Materials Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Other fundamental sciences with exposure to SEM, FIB, TEM, EBSD, EDS analytical techniques

Work Exp 5+ years in a multi-user capabilities setting

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

30% - Stand for prolonged period
50% - Sit (stationary position) for prolonged period

85% - Position self to accomplish task (i.e. stoop, kneel, crawl)

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range ($ 38,985.00 - $ 50,000.00)




Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
