Salary Range: $50.00-$60.00 per hour, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications and selected level.

Essential Functions
Job Summary
Information Security Instructor I, II, Senior
Seeking Information Security Instructors/Professionals for our national CIAS Training outreach initiatives to include Certification Preparation Courses, Cybersecurity for Small Businesses, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Cybersecurity Information Sharing, and other cybersecurity-focused professional development and training opportunities. Typical students are professionals not seeking a degree, but are seeking to enhance their cybersecurity knowledge, skills and abilities in a leadership, end-user or technical capacity.
These positions are part-time (up to 19 hours per week based on the training opportunity) and will support a variety of courses that may be delivered during business hours, evenings and/or weekends. Cybersecurity professionals with availability during any of these times and are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should possess a commitment to providing technical, specialized and/or state-of-the-art information assurance and security training for a variety of audiences in local jurisdictions and in communities and states across the nation.
Responsible for using discretion and independent judgment in the identification and definition of client needs.
These are grant-funded positions. Continuation is based on availability of funds and departmental need.
Core Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of technical and/or cybersecurity training courses for audiences seeking technical and cybersecurity competencies. Audiences may range from a technical professional to a basic user of technology with various skill levels.
- Engage participants and teach in virtual or in-person modalities.
- Ability to travel with advanced notification.
- Develop course materials, exams, evaluations, course design documents, agendas, and curriculum for training courses (beginning, intermediate, advanced, customized).
- Develop lab materials/computer environments/instructor materials for training (beginning, intermediate, advanced, and customized).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Information Security Instructor I
- Associate's degree from an accredited institution.
- One (1) year of network, system administration, network security, or relevant cybersecurity domain experience.
Information Security Instructor II
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Three (3) years of network, system administration, network security, or relevant cybersecurity domain experience.
Senior Information Security Instructor
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Five (5) years of network, system administration, network security, or relevant cybersecurity domain experience.
- Expert knowledge of security policies and procedures/best practices/tools. Ability to provide leadership and technical expertise to communities, states, and local jurisdictions in identifying, developing, conducting, planning, and training projects.
- Ability to train at an expert technical level and then transform technical materials into management training and non-technical materials for community leaders.
- Expert public speaking skills.
Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of servers, Microsoft Office software suite, various security hardware and software, and standard office equipment.
Additional experience may substitute for education on a one-for-one basis for all levels
Preferred Qualifications
Information Security Instructor I, II, Senior
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology, or information systems.
- CISSP certification preferred, other cybersecurity certifications such as CCISP, CISM, CSP, CEH, CompTIA Security +, etc. will be considered.
- Knowledge of cyber threat intelligence and cybersecurity information sharing.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for end users, management, and technical audiences.
- Knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CMMC, NIST 800-171 or NIST 800-53 controls.
- Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) security.

Physical Demands:

- Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
This position primarily works remotely in Texas but may work on campus on an infrequent basis (approximately four days or less per month). When an employee is required to work on campus, travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
