Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
VCU’s Facilities Management is seeking to hire a Special Events Coordinator for their Parking and Transportation unit. This position serves to effectively manage internal and external special event requests; provide parking arrangements and support services through efficient utilization of VCU Parking and Transportation resources; to ensure all objectives of event management are achieved; and to document and analyze event details for future planning. Minimum Hiring Standards
Cash handling and customer service experience required
Valid Virginia Driver’s License, with a driving record containing 0 or + points
Satisfactory completion of criminal history background check
Ability to communicate effectively and must possess excellent oral and written communications skills
Ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality production
Ability to handle multiple incidents simultaneously, set priorities and coordinate activities, and professionally handle stressful situations on a daily basis
Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers
Ability to diplomatically liaise with police, students, staff, faculty, and the general public
Ability to successfully supervise staff and ensure completion of requirements
Possess advanced computer and data management skills
Skills in basic accounting procedures
Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to Special Events, including proper cash handling practices and documentation
Ability to reconcile and audit daily cash receipts
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
Previous supervisory experience
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU Preferred Hiring Standards
Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality or a related field or a combination of experience and education
Previous supervisory experience in a parking and transportation operational position preferred
Cash handling and customer service in a university setting preferred
Knowledge of management principles, practices, and budget development
Considerable knowledge of VCU parking facilities preferred
Previous knowledge of Parking and Transportation policies and procedures helpful Required Licenses/ Certifications
