Part-Time Speech to Text Provider for the Deaf - FY 2025
Job Description
This is a part-time position. Applicants are accepted on an ongoing basis to establish an applicant pool. As vacancies occur, they are filled from the pool.
This position transcribes in an approved speech to text format such as CART, Type well, Dragon Diction, or computerized note taking for students and staff with a documented hearing loss and registered with the Disability Resource Center. This position requires the ability to effectively provide real-time and or conceptualized speech to text for spoken English. Situations can be but are not limed to; credit courses, workforce courses, student and engagement, community functions sponsored by CSN, and staff functions. This position requires unique to the method hired to accommodate a TypeWell license, Licensed CART provider for the State of Nevada / or the ability to license within 30 days, and or extensive training in Dragon dictions resulting in effective communication. This position requires the ability to make professional, autonomous decisions in a variety of educational situations. This position is required to follow all institutional policies and procedures. All software licenses and all licenses must in current standing with the ability to verify.
Speech to Text provider:
- Must be able to caption effectively the spoken
message.
- Proficiently use, maintain, transcribing software, and computer
systems, and equipment.
- Develop, maintain, and proficiently use a thorough dictionary
that enables accurate and fluid translation.
- Effectively listen for continuity, sense, and detail while
translating.
- Proficiently write in real-time or conceptually check as driven
by software and or request in a conflict-free manner using
punctuation and sustaining accuracy in fast-paced
situations.
- Use advanced editing skills to work effectively with consumers
and maintain confidentiality.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the English language, including
grammatical structures, syntax, spelling, vocabulary, and
punctuation.
- Requires working knowledge of the language and vocabulary used
in the assigned translating situations. Industry recognized code of
ethics and general knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Culture.
- Formal training and licensure in an approved speech to text
software are required.
- Assume responsibility for continued professional development
and personal growth per licensing and accreditation
requirements.
- Maintain a professional attitude and follow all ethics and laws
regarding confidentiality and work performance.
- Comply with all payroll documentation and reporting information
for confirmation of services in the time frame required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- TypeWell Transcribers: current license in your
name.
- CART Providers: current certification, and licensure
with the State of Nevada.
Salary Range
- CART $80.00 - $110.00 hourly
- Speech to Text Direct Service $20.00 - $60.00 hourly
- Note Taker $10.00 - $20.00 hourly
It is a pay range depending on type of certification and education level

Current certification to provide CART, licensure from the State of Nevada (or the ability to secure within 30 days)
