Assistant Professor, FA040, Full-Time:100%, Faculty, Ongoing/Renewable, Academic (9-month) appointment, one vacancy
This position is eligible for hybrid work consideration (on-campus instruction, some in-person office hours, and in-person department and committee meetings will be required). Currently eligibility requires residency in one of the following states: Wisconsin or Minnesota upon hire.

POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Department of Social Inquiry at the University of Wisconsin-Superior invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy position beginning in August 2025. The Department is seeking an individual who will provide excellent undergraduate instruction, incorporate current techniques in teaching and research, and work collaboratively to strengthen the program’s minor. 
The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to bringing high quality liberal arts education to students from a variety of backgrounds and academic preparations. Willingness and interest in teaching online and utilizing technology in the classroom is required. The successful candidate must be committed to the highest ethical standards and demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork skills.

JOB DUTIES:
•    Oversee the Philosophy program, including curriculum development, scheduling and student advising. 
•    Teach four courses in the Fall and in the Spring semesters (4 courses per semester). The teaching load includes both face-to-face and online courses. Class size typically ranges from 15-30 students. 
•    Teach introductory-level courses including Introduction to Philosophy and Contemporary Moral Problems. 
•    Teach a diverse rotation of upper-level electives, including Professional Ethics as well as courses in the candidate’s areas of interest. 
•    Utilize modern techniques in the classroom and develop, design and teach online classes.  
•    Provide service to the University and community through, but not limited to, participation in departmental and university committees as appropriate. 
•    Engage in scholarship within the discipline of Philosophy or related areas.   
Other Duties:
•    Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
•    Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
•    Ph.D. in Philosophy or related field earned by August 31, 2025
•    Area of Specialization in any field of Philosophy.
•    Ability to teach the following existing courses: Introduction to Philosophy, Contemporary Moral Problems and Professional Ethics. 
•    Professional experience using an online Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
•    Background and interest in, Critical, Non-Western, Indigenous and/or Global Philosophies. 
•    Experience teaching at the University level, including teaching introductory and upper-level courses in Philosophy. 
•    Ability to teach upper-level courses in the existing curriculum, such as Buddhism and Mind, Existentialism and Philosophy and Art. 
•    Proficiency using a Learning Management Systems in a professional capacity.
•    Willingness to engage students in experiential learning, including community-based research. 
•    Interest or experience in collaborating across disciplinary borders, including an interdisciplinary approach to teaching.

SALARY & BENEFITS:    
Salary range for this position is: $54,000 - $59,000 annually. Specific benefit information can be found here. A snapshot of benefits offered for this position include:
