Post Doc Res Assoc

Job Summary

The Sayu Lab for Biomechanics & Locomotion at the University of Utah is seeking highly motivated candidates for two postdoc research associate positions. These positions are designed to prepare individuals for a research-focused career in academia or industry. The candidate will work with Dr. Kota Takahashi to conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary projects that bridge biomechanics, physiology, engineering and rehabilitation medicine. The candidate will participate in one of three actively funded research by NIH and DOD:

  • Research Theme 1: gait biomechanics, vascular physiology and thermoregulation in individuals with diabetes and amputation
  • Research Theme 2: in-vivo muscle mechanics and energetics of foot-ankle in older adults
  • Research Theme 3: foot-ankle robotics/prosthetics and gait biomechanics in individuals with a leg amputation

The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for multiple years based on performance and funding. The selected candidates will have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications, and they will be encouraged to develop independent fellowships/grants proposals to advance their careers. The salary will be consistent with NIH postdoctoral salary scale.

Review of applications will begin on January 27, 2025

    Special Instructions to Applicants
    The application should include:

If the candidate wishes to be considered for more than one Research Theme, please rank them in the order of your interests.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Information for three professional references (references will only be contacted for finalists)

    • Perform rigorous scientific experiments and work within an interdisciplinary team consisting of biomechanists, physiologists, engineers, clinicians, and statisticians.• Write manuscripts for publications in scientific journals, and present research at national meetings• Assist in grant proposals• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students• Lead and organize lab meetings

    Minimum Qualifications
    Qualifications:

    • Ph.D., in biomechanics, engineering, kinesiology, physiology, or a related discipline.• A track record of peer-reviewed publications

    Preferences
    • Capacity to perform rigorous scientific experiments• Proficiency in 3D movement analysis studies and equipment (e.g., motion capture, force platforms, EMG)• Proficiency in programming (Matlab, Visual3D)• Experience working with clinical population (e.g., amputation, diabetes, older adults) is desired, but not required.• Experience in vascular physiology analyses (e.g., doppler ultrasound, NIRS) for Research Theme 1• Experience in muscle-tendon biomechanics and energetics for Research Theme 2• Experience in robotics, mechatronics, or prosthetics for Research Theme 3

    Special Instructions
