POSITION SUMMARY
The University of Providence seeks a dynamic Chemistry Faculty to join our vibrant academic community. As a faculty member at UP, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our students by providing high-quality education and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
A successful candidate for this position will possess a thorough knowledge of those subjects and provide engaging and high-level teaching in lecture and lab courses. Collaboration with biology faculty in teaching biochemistry is an additional possibility. Candidates interested in interdisciplinary advising of student research in biology, ecology, forensics, and exercise science are especially encouraged to apply. This position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track (for a candidate with a terminal degree) faculty position. Faculty members are responsible for teaching, service, and scholarships.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach 24 credits per academic year (fall and spring semesters) as assigned, including on-campus and online classes.
- Support the mission of the department, school, and university.
- Participate in curriculum development within the program, the department, and the school.
- Write syllabi, prepare course materials, and provide high-quality instruction.
- Maintain a course website in Moodle, the Learning Management System used by the university.
- Demonstrate teaching effectiveness in content expertise, instructional design, delivery, and student engagement.
- Supervise the stocking and orderly maintenance of labs for general and organic chemistry.
- Keep posted office hours.
- Advise students on their progress in each course in a timely manner.
- Submit grades according to established university policies. Active engagement in a scholarly agenda to meet scholarship expectations of the UP’s FEAT committee.
- Service to school, university, community, and profession, including committee work, community service, advising students within the program, supervising undergraduate research projects, and maintaining professional expertise within the candidate’s specialization.
- Maintain contemporary currency in teaching.
- Participate in professional development and professional growth workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Preference will be given to candidates with a completed master’s degree or doctorate in chemistry.
- Candidates with a master’s or doctorate in a related subject and at least 18 general and organic chemistry graduate hours will also be considered. (Assistant/Associate Professor of Chemistry with terminal degree or Instructor of Chemistry with MS).
EXPERIENCE:
The preferred candidate will have:
- A demonstrated ability for engaging and rigorous teaching of undergraduate general, organic, and quantitative chemistry, or evidence of mastery of the subjects and excellent potential for engaging teaching.
- Lab manager or lab assistant experience. Familiarity with the use of Moodle or a similar online Learning Management System in face-to-face and/or online classes
- Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in written English for academic and administrative business.
- Proficiency in human relations, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and academic counseling
