Description

The College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for an appointment at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor with a focus on humanity and technology. We welcome candidates with expertise in teaching and research that integrates the humanities with new technologies (e.g., digital and computational humanities, virtual and augmented reality, ethics of emerging technologies, socio-technical studies) and with the potential for interdisciplinary leadership and collaboration, including with STEM faculty and students. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research and teaching take the intersection of humanity and technology as their object of study, as opposed to scholars who incorporate digital technologies into humanistic practice. This is a new faculty position that will contribute to the Experimental Humanities initiative and to the new major in Humanity and Technology. The successful candidate will be appointed in a humanities department of the College of Arts and Sciences and is expected to teach four courses per year (two per semester), including two in the Humanity and Technology major sequence and two in the department of appointment.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have completed a Ph.D. in a field of the humanities by August 1, 2025. Candidates are expected to have a strong record and the promise of continuing a high level of research activity, a clear dedication to teaching and mentorship, and a demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive university community.

Application Instructions

A complete application will include: (1) a letter of application that addresses research interests, teaching experience, and philosophy of teaching; (2) a CV; and (3) contact information for three references. All application materials should be submitted via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/160787. Applications should be received by February 10, 2025, for full consideration.

In employment, as in education, Case Western Reserve University is committed to Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Women, veterans, members of underrepresented minority groups, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
