Summary
The Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine section in the Department of Medicine is recruiting a Patient Affairs Specialist to assist with scheduling and administrative needs. This role will be responsible for assisting with scheduling and patient inquiries for the Pulmonary and Sleep Clinics at the BCM McNair Campus.
Job Duties
- Works with physician leaders and practice manager to optimize clinic schedules and volumes.
- Responds to and assists physicians with patient questions.
- Contacts patients to schedule procedures, testing, and appointments.
- Answers and makes 50+ calls per day to address patient inquiries, solve problems, and provide appointment information.
- Coordinates out of town patient visits, which requires assisting with medical record requests, pre-testing order entry, scheduling appointments and post-visit referrals or other testing.
- Responds promptly and accurately to patient calls, complaints, inquiries, and requests.
- Registers incoming patients and fields, prioritizes, and routes phone calls.
- Obtains insurance pre-certifications and verifications.
- Delivers administrative assistance and performs various duties for the staff.
- Informs patients on treatment, administration and insurance-related matters.
- Investigates insurance coverage and demographics for patients.
- Works with physicians and clinical staff to schedule procedures in BCM Epic.
- Works with hospital schedulers to ensure entry into Hospital Epic.
- Uploads hospital procedure reports to Epic in a timely fashion so that encounters can be closed by physician.
- Works with physician leaders and practice manager to maintain work queues and ensure patients are scheduled in a timely manner.
- Provides and explains educational material to patients.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Patient scheduling experience.
- Strong organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
- Willingness to learn new tasks.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
