Summary

Professor Opekun's laboratory in the Section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in the Department of Medicine is looking to hire a research technician to support the research mission. The lab is seeking a motivated 4th year undergraduate student or recent undergraduate who is transitioning to graduate school who is genuinely interested in biomedical research. Ideal for someone who has a long-term career goal in research or medicine and wants to join an active research team . The realm includes studies the role of inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal failure. The position is currently part-time at 4 hours/week for approximately 20 weeks. Must pass NIH background check and prerequisite online training and do so expeditiously.

Job Duties
  • Helps with All-of-Us database virtual bench studies in the lab to accelerate research on the mechanism of intestinal diseases and inflammatory conditions.
  • Works on straight forward database and lab report writing of findings similar to those learned in undergraduate courses that includes micro, biochem, and organization.
  • Works on data retrieval and stratification of queries.
  • Conducts timely documentation.
  • Performs other job related-duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Has knowledge of the use of basic, college-level biochemistry or genetics and metabolism and basic, college-level, computer programming (‘R’).
  • Has excellent record keeping and lab notebook skills.
