Job Summary
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the College's network infrastructure. This includes supporting day-to-day operations, including troubleshooting network issues, deploying new access points, and managing VLAN assignments. The Network Technician will also assist with project work, including UPS battery replacement, data closet cleanup, and AP replacement. This is a junior position with the expectation that the network team will provide training and guidance to develop the person. This role is an on-site position.

Major Area of Responsibility :
● Review, test, validate, and maintain Network Standard Operating Procedures.
● Monitor the NetworkGrp ticket queue in the ITS ticketing system and triage issues as
appropriate, performing first level troubleshooting as required.
● Install and onboard new wireless access points
● Understand VLAN architecture and assist other ITS teams with appropriate VLAN and IP
assignments
● Interface and interact with the Managed Services Provider on a daily basis to best leverage
contracted services
● Occasionally provide on-site network support for home football games
● Data closet maintenance, organization, and management
● UPS Battery monitoring, upkeep, and replacement
Expectations for growth:
● Year 1: Acquire Network+ certification, gain proficiency in VLAN/IP assignments, and assist
with network troubleshooting under supervision.
● Year 2: Work towards Aruba certifications, develop proficiency with SSH and shell scripting
for Aruba configuration, and gain autonomy in routine network maintenance. Begin
familiarization with network automation tools (e.g., Aruba Central).
● Pursue Aruba certifications commensurate with network practice

Minimum Qualifications:
● Education: Either a degree in a technical discipline, diploma from a technical school with
demonstrated practical understanding of the networking concepts described within this job
description, or 2 years of relevant work experience.
● Basic knowledge of network topography and concepts, exhibited by understanding of how
endpoints access the network, obtain an address, route data through physical and logical
layers, and communicate with other devices over a network
● Basic understanding of wireless heatmap analysis and mapping, being able to examine
wireless diagrams to identify dead spots and propose remediation actions.
● Proficient understanding of common network tools and protocols, such as network flukes,
ping, ssh, TCP/IP, DHCP, Layer 2 topography, and Layer 3 routing.
● Basic understanding of the Aruba stack of network equipment
● Familiarity with network topology concepts such as Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing,
Quality of Service (QoS), and traffic shaping is beneficial.

Additional information:
This is a full time, exempt level position with a salary range of $57,000-$60,000 . The College is committed to providing competitive market pay for its employees. The College also offers a competitive benefits package for full-time staff, including:
